My domain is up for renewal and I want to leave joker (they wanted to charge me for changing the owner's details!). Is gkg.net still the best registrar? what do ou recommend?

Personally I prefer http://www.godaddy.com

Some more cheap registrars:
http://www.powerpipe.com
http://www.namecheap.com

I've got 3 domains registered through GKG and have had no problems whatsoever. I'm very satisfied with their service.

Although you can find lots of quality registrars for under $10 now (see above post).

Peace... :cool2:

I looked at a bunch recently including gkg.net and powerpipe.
I didnt like gkg's way of transfering the domain of having to fax in a piece of paper. I couldnt figure out what they wanted on the form anyway. So I signed up with godaddy.com and Im very happy so far. It was very easy to tranfer the domains.

I am a gkg affiliate and I love their affiliate setup, but if they would get the transfer problem fixed.

I tried godaddy with a recent domain name and I was quite impress. I am even considering becoming a reseller with them.

looking through godaddy's suppport pages:

Any domain name you have registered with Go Daddy can be sold and transferred to any party you wish. You must complete the following process so Go Daddy can have that domain name transferred to the new owner. Currently you are charged $49.95 for this process.

That's cheap. Network Solutions charges $199.
You figure youre paying administrative etc fees. If you sell a domain at a reseller like one of those places where you auction it off you often pay 1% of the sales price plus other fees.

This is a fee to change the registered owner of the domain name, not to transfer to another register.

Yes exactly. You can change Technical, Organization, and billing contacts but you cannot change Administrative/Registrant name without paying. Dont know where you can do it without paying.
You can change Administrative info like address etc but not name.
Thats the owner or the registrant.
The NIC probably charges registrars for changing the registrant and they pass that on to you, the consumer. :)

www.h-nic.com . very good service, good prices,

.com/.net/.org $14/year
.co.uk/.org.uk $9/year (£ 6.50)
.tv $49/year

>>> How do I change ownership of my domain name? (ie. I want to sell it or give it to someone else)
You can simply give your username and password to the new owner, and allow them to change the contact information using the Manage Domain interface. They should also change the domain's profile to a new one with a unique username and password.

very simple and no tax, i think. :-)
