Hi
I'm about to register a domain name with Stargate Inc. From what I've heard about them - they are a pretty good company.
On the Stargate Inc homepage, it mentions that it offers complete control over modifying the name server entries, and that I can modify the IP address in the server entries.
I take it's talking about the DNS nameserver records? If so, am I able to modify these records without being forced to use another DNS nameserver? Because a mate of mine says that some domain registration companies do not allow you to set the IP address of the DNS entries to an IP other than theirs - if you do so you'll have to use another DNS nameserver. Does Stargate Inc allow me to freely change the DNS server entires without having to move to another DNS nameserver?
Also.. how many email addresses can you have with a Stargate Inc domain name? Is it really just one email address that forwards mail to a email address of my choice? Or can I have more than one?
And finally.. would you say Stargate Inc is a good company to register with? How long does it take normally before I can use the domain after registration?
Many thanks in advanced

Not sure what you mean by the name server stuff. Their panel allows you to set the nameservers and IP of whatever host you want your domain pointed to.
If your talking about the more advanced features like setting A, CNAME, MX records, then your domain must be using Stargate's nameservers.
For email, you get one web based account, but again, to make use of this feature, you need to use stargate's nameservers.
I guess they're an ok company. I had better luck getting support through their online chat help, but now they've introduced a new help system (ticketing) with as well with online chat. I haven't tried to use it yet. Domain registrations are supposed to be done right away, but in my case, there were a few glitchs, but I got them solved in a short time.

I have many domains now registered with Stargate. The email account they give you is actually POP3, although you can access it through the web as well. Their FAQ provides the information for mail servers to set up your email program. One email address per domain.
I pay for the hosting of most of my domains, but have a few small sites I host on free servers because I don't do much with them anymore. I think for their prices it's great that Stargate also includes the email address with the domain. I used to have my domains at DirectNIC and their price is $15/yr and you can have an email address only if you're using their nameservers and forwarding your domain to an account elsewhere. Even at the $10/yr to renew the names (something most people don't realize when they first register or transfer for $8 or $8.95, depending on how many names you're doing) I think Stargate has been pretty good.

One email address means one email address. I had totally forgotten about the 'catch all' concept. That's one thing they don't offer that directnic did.

You can have more email addresses if you are hosting the site with a web hosting package that gives you more. I only use the email address provided to me by Stargate for a couple domains I have hosted on free sites. My web host provider gives me 15 email addresses with the actual site.
I had never really thought of email addresses as part of the package for domain registrars anyway - that's more of a web hosting kind of feature.
