Blue Jays fan in California. Choosing teams to root for based only on geography is too boring and uncreative... though the Giants are my 2nd favorite team, and if they make the playoffs they'll probably be my aviator.

The Jays are 3rd in the AL East, with 69 wins and 73 losses. They've been 3rd for 4 consecutive seasons now. They were over .500 in '98, '99 and '00, but they haven't made the playoffs since 1993.

There are 30 teams in 2 leagues of 3 divisions each. The best 2nd place team in each league is the wild card, meaning they get to be in the playoffs despite not winning their division.

30 teams, 8 playoff spots. Actually there's an unwritten rule whereby the Yankees and Braves are automatically division winners in the east, so really it's 28 teams competing for 6 playoff spots.
