IE 6 status bar

I just found out that if you press the ALT key the status bar will look a bit differently! I have always thought that the different look was because IE has performed some illegal action without Windows knowing... :rolleyes:

I guess it's supposed to describe what each function is on the menu bar, when you hover over them

It does. Press alt and then move around your cursor keys or use your mouse to hover over the menu items. It only works for the menu bar not the tool bar!

I'm amazed you haven't noticed it uptil now! Not a keyboard junkie huh? ;)

I bet 90% of MS software is loaded with this stuff.
The rest is crash code.

If program hasn't crashed for x mins Then crash it Else crash it anyways.

btw the status bar also works differently on IE 5.5 when you press the ALT key.

I still don't get what it's functions... what do you mean by "describe what each function is on the menu bar"? Can you possibly tell me how to do that as you do to a newbie? I see no difference at all when I do what I think you're saying.

OK. Press the Alt key. Then hover your mouse over File, Edit, View etc. buttons. While you do that you will see a description of it in the status bar.

Look at File when you press Alt. Same for all programs. You press Alt to get to the menu bar if you have no mouse. Then browse with the arrows.

I'd take a mouse anyday.
Try playing games (especially RTS's) with a trackball or a touchpad.

I never use a mouse to play games. I always use the keyboard and don't say i'm good, I win most of the times.

What a peculiar thread. I think every program I have displays tooltips in the status bar except Notepad and that's because it doesn't have a status bar. :classic2:
