All plane travel in the US has been grounded, and unconfirmed reports that any aircraft in the air will be downed.
All cell phone use is also being reported to be haulted also.
Anybody in the US can confirm the cell phone story.
They are trying to cut their mode of communication.
Yasser Arafat <sp?> came on saying that they had nothing to do with this.
My honest opinion is it revolves possibly around Bin laden <sp?>

This is the first time the US has witnessed a real terrorist attack. Terrorist bombings are routine in India. But this shows that no one can escape the terrorists. This has been proved now.

Just got back from school. For some reason, my school was on lockdown. No one could leave the school unless a parent picked you up.
While switching classes my friend & I witnessed the crashes & the collapse of the towers. We were right across the river from the Twin Towers (we have a great skyline view of the city). The skyline looks totally different now without them. After that we went to the library to watch the news, and learned about the pentagon and the other news you probably know by now. After a while, someone said, "OH MY GOD!" and everyone looked out the window and we saw the first one collapse. The entire school went nuts. I was so worried since my Mom worked in NYC, but in rockefeller center, not very close. I hope shes ok. I tried calling, but its useless. I'm not sure how shes gonna get home (home=NJ).
This entire situation sucks.

I am going to say that these acts are utterly unacceptable and highly depressing. The US Embassy in Argentina was evacuated, because this city is the probable next target for an attack. These acts are of cowardice, and I will say these Palestinians cheering these acts are sick. This is an official act of war between the Osama Bin Laden's group if it was committed by his group, and will be considered by the Bush adminstration.
I was talking with a US Government FBI Dispatch to Argentina... he told me all he could, same info as the news.
I personally want Bin Laden and every single person in his group dead, and that is how it will be.

By the way, can a terrorist group commit an official act of war? Bin Laden's krew don't belong to any nation, so who do you declare war against? The whole civilised world is supposidly at war with terrorism already anyway.

Is there any indication of the total death toll of all today's incidents yet?
I can't believe the tv talks about 'economic impact' - what about the devastation of families for now - I find this a little insensitive at this time.
Also, were the reports about another hi-jacked airplane en route to DC false? I heard that jets had been scrambled.

Considering that nearly 50,000 people work at the now gone WTC every day, more than half of which usually make it there at around 7:45AM...you can expect the death toll to be extremely high...they only evacuated the second tower. The first crash was probably just to look as if it were an accident because it did minimal damage at a high angle, to leave the other tower chuck full of people. From estimates I've gotten from CBS and what the NYPD was discussing, I'd say the death toll is 17.5 thousand+.

That many? I can find comfort in knowing where those hi-jackers are now...
Also, I heard that probably nobody will admit responsibility as they're afraid of what the US will do in retaliation.
I simply cannot conceive of why anyone would want to go to so much effort to pull off a stunt like this for nothing - not even notoriety / infamy. It just beggars belief.
I mean what have they achieved? Ok so the palestinians seem pretty happy about it, and there are plenty of nations / races who hate the west. We hate them (namely the taliban / bin laden and so on) but we don't kill innocent civillians.
What I'm trying to say is, no cause or belief justifies murder. End of story.

I don't think WWIII is upon us, because all the major world powers condemn this act. The world is together on this one IMHO.
I suppose north korea / libya / iraq etc could be responsible - this is their only effective way of waging war against the USA - if they invaded in an honorable fashion they'd be crushed.
The only exception would be china - now if they got dragged into open armed conflict with the US I'd start digging a shelter in the backyard...
But that's all just sensationalist bull---- anyhow - I'm surprised they aren't suggesting it on the tv already!

i just got home from my highschool in central new jersey where tons of people have parents working in or around the trade centers. I heard one kid lost both his parents and tons of other kids can reach thier parents. Which brings up another argument. Should cell phones be allowed in schools? Come on, what if your parents were working in the trade center and you couldn't get a hold of them because you weren;t allowed to bring a cell phone to school.
Here is the latest from cnn...
• In the first attack, a plane hits the north tower of the World Trade Center in Manhattan shortly before 9 a.m., followed by another plane into the second tower about 20 minutes later. Both towers later collapse.
• About an hour later, a plane crashes into the Pentagon, part of which later collapses.
• American Airlines tells CNN that it lost two planes, both en route to Los Angeles: American Flight 11 from Boston with 81 passengers and 11 crew aboard is lost. This is believed, but not confirmed, to have been one of the planes that crashed into the trade center. ... American Flight 77, a Boeing 757 from Washington Dulles airport to Los Angeles with 58 passengers and six crew is unaccounted for. Witness says plane that hit Pentagon was an American Airlines Boeing 757.
• United Airlines loses two planes: United Airlines Flight 93 airliner headed from Newark, New Jersey, to San Francisco, crashes near Somerset, Pennsylvania -- police say initial reports indicate no survivors. ... United confirms the crash of Flight 175 from Boston to Los Angeles with 56 passengers and seven crew aboard. It's possible, but not confirmed, that this is the second plane that hit the World Trade Center.
• FBI sources said all four planes that crashed had been hijacked.
• The Pentagon, the White House, the State Department, the Justice Department, the Capitol, the CIA and all other government buildings in Washington are evacuated.
• President Bush calls the crashes "a national tragedy." Later in the day, Bush issues a statement from Barksdale AFB near Shreveport, Louisiana. "Make no mistake: The United States will hunt down and punish those responsible for these cowardly acts."
• In the first-ever national ground stop of aircraft, all flights nationwide are stopped at their departure airports.
• International flights are initially diverted to Canada; FAA says later, however, that 22 U.S.-bound international flights will be allowed to land.
• Mullah Abdul Salam Zaeef, the Taliban ambassador to Pakistan, says in reaction to the terror attacks that "we want to tell the American children that Afghanistan feels your pain and we hope that the courts find justice."
• In New York, more than 10,000 rescue personnel rush to the scene. Evacuation of lower Manhattan begins.
• Israel evacuates all of its missions around the world.
• The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta is evacuated. CDC prepares bioterrorism teams in case they become necessary.
• Philadelphia landmarks are evacuated.
• In Chicago, the Sears Tower is evacuated; United Nations in New York is evacuated.
• Five battleships and two aircraft are deployed along the East Coast of the United States, and two aircraft carriers go to New York area, all from Norfolk, Virginia.
• The New York Port Authority closes all bridges and tunnels into the city.
• U.S. stock markets close after the New York attacks.
• NATO sends home all non-essential personnel from its Brussels, Belgium, headquarters.
• The Immigration and Naturalization Service puts the U.S. borders with Mexico and Canada on highest state of alert.
• Los Angeles International Airport is evacuated.
• Disney closes its parks in Orlando, Florida, and Disneyland in Anaheim, California.
• FEMA implements plan established for such events: FBI leads investigation, and Justice Deptartment heads crisis management.
• Three Palestinian groups -- Hamas, the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine and Islamic Jihad -- deny responsibility for the attacks, but blame U.S. policies in the Mideast.
• Mayor Anthony Williams of Washington, D.C., declares a state of emergency.
• A Delta flight makes emergency landing in Cleveland and all passengers are safely evacuated. Federal officials search the plane for a possible bomb.

First off let me explain something. No American pilot would have done what these planes did. He is not going to do what the terrorist want because he knows that either way, he will die along with his passengers. Not only were the planes hijacked, the pilot positions were taken over by them.
The plane that went down.....it was not shot down. I believe that by this time, the pilot had already heard the news on the flight's channel. When the pilot saw his plane was one about to be hijacked, he chose to down the plane instead of let another incident like the towers happen. I think the pilot made a choice between the lives of 200 people versus and unknown number... such as the Whitehouse or another populated civilian facility such as the towers..
Those of you saying it was shot down, I dont think you are giving the pilot's their due credit. They probably had a tough decision to make, and made it..

Today is also the International Day of Peace. I don't think if those idiots that did this divastating disaster know or even care for peace. Luckily, I don't have any closed relatives and friends there in NYC. I feel sorry for those who did.
bTW, school wasn't closed here in Montreal although the entire MTL airport was closed down.

I have been told that is probably the Northern Alliance Guerrilla Front launching medium range missiles.
It is dangerous making assumptions like that since the American Military complex needs to gather information before it bombs a place. Standard procedure so we don't bomb a place for nothing.

Sorry, New York is not the City of God. Also there are no brothers involved, and what exactly is our "great leader" (Bush is a great leader? Giancarlo will like that.) supposed to succumb to?

At first the nation was in shock, and i am too. i still cand accept it. this is bigger than pearl harbour. Now the nation is angry; pointing fingers and making assumptions which could make the situation worse. The casualties and simple problems such as gas lines, electricacal lines, transportation and evacuation should be dealt with first. after all this should the search for who is responsible begin. no doubt these pilots were killed and the planes taken over. i am willing to bet there were other planes with hijackers on them, but werent hijacked. i also believe the white house was targrtted.
I didnt like bush's speech. I understand his anger, but i think he should deal with domestic problems before "hunting down and punishing" who is responsible.
This is certainly a history making event. luckily the WTC wasn't hit at peak tourist hours.

You have to understand prophecy somewhat....I dont know where this one came from whether it be Nastrodamus or elsewhere, but I get the picture. I have heard it, but dont remember where it comes from.
Two brothers torn apart by Chaos
-----------------------The twin towers of the WTC.
while the fortress endures
-----------------------The Pentagon
the great leader will succumb
-----------------------The United States. On this one however, I dont think it means how you are reading it. The U.S. will certainly not succumb to terrorism, but we can and have succumbed to rage. This is not so much the point, but what we do with that rage is.
I can name off and quote several given prophecies that describe such as what happened today, but I think any "end-timers" will find we are not at the end of the world just yet.

Solution:
ICBM (Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile)
Destination: Bin Laden's Camp, and where he is staying, Afghanistan)
BTW, Hoth you are being skeptical and that is not acceptable in this situation. It will make things worse for a great president and choice making. It will prevent that.
I would follow the President, like I would even if it was a democrat. The country is going through a national crisis and should not be held up by idiotic skeptics who doubt choices Bush makes.

If bin laden is in fact the one responsible he deserves punishment. I feel this needs to be looked into further before any ICBMs or SCUDS are launched.

Only if he is responsible, but evidence is landing on the President's desk that he is. If this is repeatably vertified then unleash all hell against Afghanistan, and every single country that harbors Laden and his organization.
Another Idea:
Capture Bin Laden alive. Throw him in a room with survivors from bombing.

Nostradamus is truly frightening.
Out of the country of Greater Arabia
Shall be born a strong master of Mohammed...
He will enter Europe wearing a blue turban.
He will be the terror of mankind.
Never more horror.
In the year 1999 and seven months
From the sky will come the great King of Terror.
He will bring back to life the King of the Mongols;
Before and after war reigns.
The war will last seven and twenty years.

This part really makes you think...
The sky will burn at forty-five degrees.
Fire approaches the great new city.
In this phrase, Nostradamus refers to a great city in the new world of America near forty-five degrees latitude. Experts agree this could only be New York.
By fire he will destroy their city,
A cold and cruel heart,
Blood will pour,
Mercy to none.

I help run a collection agency. We don't have radioes and TV's in the office, only source I have to news is the internet and a phone call from home.
I logged in and see Lex's topic. Right after I read it I had employees of the agency barging in my office.

I'm sorry but I couldn't help it
I think the USA has finally woken up to the real and present danger of terrorism. All these years I have seen countless reports of terrorists killing innocent people in our country and our govt asking the world community to stand up and fight terrorism. Terrorists are cowards...they use innocent people for their own gains. Now that the US is hit by terrorism and trying to understand that anyone can be hit...it's a matter of time...everyone is vulnerable unless all countries of the world and affected countries like mine take joint action against these cowards. I sincerely pray and hope that the USA realizes that terrorism is a real threat. Ten's of thousands of innocent lives have been lost to terrorism in our country. Everytime i heard such a newsreport i would get angry that the major nations are being diplomatic about the whole thing and don't care about what's happening if it doesn't affect them. It's time to fight the terrorists.

I agree to what you have to say. Innocent people are being killed in the Valley of Kashmir (India) and its as disturbing & inhuman. Terrorism of any kind should be put to rest .. ONCE & FOR ALL. It's high time now that global political leaders start working together to resolve such anti-social elements and restore freedom.

This event makes Bush's Anti-Missile Defence System seem like a joke... no missiles of any sort has flown over the skies near America, yet the heart of the US is in ruins (basically). They most likely never suspected that fuel-laden jumbo jets can be the cause of disaster.
I truly hope that no terrorists will take this tragic event as an example to attack another city/country. It could happen, and there's probably nothing the attacked city/country can do about it. Makes my skin crawl just thinking about it... :nervous:

I'm sure many people were happy that someone was reporting it. The traffic nearly doubled across the network when this happened so not only did FreeWebspace.net experience increases in traffic but also other sites on the network had a lot more traffic. Meaning people wanted more news and considering most of the news sites were under such extreme loads people had to turn elsewhere. The increase in traffic shows this so ignore those who gripe as not everyone had access to a TV or radio.

The Missle Defense System isn't even in service yet.... and are only useful for missiles... well maybe we should make it useful for jumbo jets now...
If any other terrorists even think about taking this as an example to attack another country, they can sign their own death warrent as we send out our military.

Made my skin crawl because, earlier this year, there was an episode of "The Lone Gunmen" (the short-lived X-Files spinoff) that used that same plot. A terrorist was trying to crash a jetliner into the World Trade Center. Except he did it by remote control and the pilots were helpless... Leading to the hokey hacking in to save the day solution.
But I remember thinking about it at the time that something like that could happen. :(
