I am searching for a host with all the requirments as written on the title. I develop websites for about 2 years now, and I still haven't find a FWP that has all this abilities.
Here are some of my experiences with the host's I used
crosswinds : No adds, cgi, unlimited traffic and space, great but you need to upload via browser (maybe they have changed now?) and latetely when I visited the site, they didn't accept new members..
freedom2surf : Fantastic host, 20 mb, cgi, no adds, only a pitty that they don't have SSI
Tripod.com : You already know about this, it just sucks with all those big adds..
Spaceporst : Nice host, but I am getting sick of all the popups and redirecting when you use cgi which use an internal link, so my autorank is not working there :( or if you use hit a 404 page..
DigitalRice : Just signed up for it a couple of days ago.. when I log in I see that I logged into a UniX server, but the guy of DigitalRice says, that they have a NT server, and that actually sucks for CGI.. but they got all the other great things, like 25 mb space, no ads and more..
Hypermarkt : Seems good, but I don't know how to choose between a popup or a banner.. I don't mind a banner though,but a popup really sucks!
So if anyone knows a great free bussniss host, please reply!
Greetings,

uh.. dude no it doesnt suck... Digitalrice is good and NT servers are ok
for cgi you dont have to chmod and instead of usr/bin/perl is is like d:\...\perl\perl.exe
try datablocks
freedom to surf has SSI you just have to use something like <? SSI CODE ?>
i host a web site there pr0nstarz.com no ads, it is nice, they have ssi

Thanks for your comments, It made me a lot wiser :)
About crosswinds, yeah sorry but I didn't know how sucky it is now, but I used to have that about a year ago, with those great settings, but things have changed now...
And Mr Mrh0ax, I am hunting for Unix host's because I am very new with cgi's. I heared that on a NT server only the host admin can chmod the files, and that really sucks.. and on unix you can do it yourself.. (please tell me if this not true, I just heared from a friend, I don't know for sure..)
So how to install a script on NT then (sorry not a FWP question..but if I know this, I can also search for NT host's instead of Unix only..)?
is it like this :
Unix = #!usr/bin/per
NT = #!d:/perl/perl.exe
?
And are you sure F2S supports SSI? I am not quite sure about that, but if so, I just finished my hunting :) F2S is amazing, but I really needed a host with SSI, so if they offer it will be just fantastic..

Yes. But you'll have to name your files to php3. It worked fine for me when I used it a couple of months ago. There might have been more you'll have to do than just the renaming but look at their forum and http://www.users.f2s.com I'm not sure about this url, though... but it was something like that were I found exact instructions.

Crosswinds have ads. They say it is "temporarily", but it has been "temporarily" for quite a long time! They are also known to have lots of downtime and slow servers. But on the good side, I've notice crosswinds is a little faster now, probably because of the "temporarily" ads.

Are you sure about this? Generally php files have to be named that, but files that include a SSI must be named with a .shtml ending. At least on every server I've even been on/owned.

Yea you have to name your files PHP, but it's not SSI , it's a PHP type of SSI "PHP INCLUDE" i think it is ... don't remember it's all @ http://www.users.f2s.com.

Yes, F2S is da bomb :) It does support SSI and this just makes F2S for me the greatest host out there...
Look at http://www.users.f2s.com/faq/ssi.php3 for the info about SSI, have phun

OK. I didn't remember everything *just* right since I haven't been using it for months but here are the details:
Can I use ssi on f2s? (http://www.users.f2s.com/faq/virtual.php3)
Using ssi at f2s (http://www.users.f2s.com/faq/ssi.php3)
This is taken from their FAQ (www.users.f2s.com)
"Can I use SSI?
You can use SSI only if you are on the new servers. If not, you can use php instead.
In order to include a file use: <? include("FILE.TXT"); ?>
(change FILE.TXT to your file)
In order to execute a CGI script inside your page use: <? virtual("CGISCRIPT.CGI"); ?>
(again, change CGISCRIPT.CGI to your script)
Important! Change your extensions: .shtml for SSI and .php for PHP.
(You can also use .php3) "
Here is the call I used:
<? virtual ("/cgi-bin/xxx.cgi"); ?>
I don't really know what it does differently as the normal
<!--#exec cgi="/cgi-bin/xxx.cgi" -->
but it performs the same task.

I reccommended cavendo to everyone in this forum and i thought it was a great service. I had a paid unix account there for 4 months. Every 2 weeks something was going on. The server was down or pop3 didnt work or the dns server rebooted by itself and now all dns entries my be manually done or whatever. anyways they have a great service at low prices if you dont want dependibility
