Anybody seen it before? Parts 1-5 first aired in 2000. It's from WGBH Boston (The American Experience), WNET New York, and Steeplechase Films, directed by Ric Burns. Part 6 was yesterday, and the final, Part 7 is airing right now. It's been an amazing series so far. You can see it on your local PBS station.

To do those who neglected to see this conclusion of this series, and had the chance to, in the aftermath of a terrible, horrible tragedy:
You may not realize it, but America owes New York City quite a bit. Everything that America stands for, and everything America will stand for, is enclosed in the five boroughs that make up Greater New York. New York, is a place that brings people together, like all urban area does, but this is a bit more unique.
New York was an experiment, to test whether ethnic harmony could exist with many different cultures and traditions in a very dense area, to test whether meritocracy would prove a success, to test whether people would stand against or for change. In the 1960s, with the destruction and tyranny Robert Moses has caused in New York City, provided a future for the middle class, and many have suffered for a cause that most nowadays would take for granted. It brought about a fiscal crisis that lasted for years, and the devestation of areas in the Southern Bronx. And when we, the city, asked for funds to support us, the federal government at first, gave us cold shoulder, telling us literally to "Drop Dead", and you realized, what a great mistake you were making, to have the arguably greatest city in the world diminish and wither away to nothing...would be horrendous, because New York is the testing grounds on which America's newest ideas will be experimented on...and we have foreshadowed to future for many...
Well,...if any of you bothered to watch the last 40 minutes of Part 7 of the series, you would have seen a similar scene, one very similar to that of the devestation in Lower Manhattan...well, after President Ford pumped money into the New York City budget, just years afterwards, we were back on track. We made it even with all the skepticism, with all the resentment, and here is the hidden message the last portion of the film conveyed, without a doubt, even if it were not intentional, that we will rebuild, and we will rise, and we will become, once again, the successful experiment that the world has created.
God bless America. (even though I do not believe in God)
And to those who saw it: Good for you, I am wondering what is resting on your concious, please post whatever comes to mind.
Hayama-kun,
A New Yorker captivated by this series
P.S. I have gotten my point across, I couldn't care if no one decides to post.
