Alex December 20th, 2000, 09:47 Hey Guys,
Alex Online 4.0 Is Now Out!
Yippe!
Tell Me What Ya Think Of It,
BTW: should i use phpBB or VBB?? i got both of them full versions...
http://www.AlexOnline.F2S.com
while you at it sign the gbook + post on message board..
Rust December 20th, 2000, 10:54 well first its looks too 'kiddy
2. may be u can make the frame thing disappeared and none scrollable...
Alex December 20th, 2000, 11:34 kiddy?
waht ya talkin about?
i am only 12 so it should look "kiddY"..
Mrh0ax December 20th, 2000, 11:50 other then all the links are forbidden
it looks ok
Rust December 20th, 2000, 11:55 hey sorry man dint know that...
Alex December 20th, 2000, 12:00 It's Alright :)
BTW: links DO WORK
just that F2S.com is slow currently mine just takes 4 mins to get there.. hehe
Nick December 20th, 2000, 16:38 a. A lot of links DON'T work.
b. Way to bland, and I mean bland.
c. Times Roman sucks, use Verdana, Arial, Helvetica or Tahoma
d. Make real thumbnails instead of making image attributes smaller. It takes so damn long to load on a 56k.
e. LOADS of spelling that needs fixing.
Fred December 20th, 2000, 19:08 Who cares if your 12 years old. I'm 15, I'm still considered a "kid" to many. Yet my sites don't have that "kiddy" look to them.
You want your site to NOT look kiddy.
Coolin December 20th, 2000, 21:06 Heck, I'm 13, and I still like baby stuff, such as Pokemon. And I even made a site about them (now screwed up). View it at http://www.pokenet.netcabins.com. People said they liked it, and they didn't say anything about baby looking ;)
Devine Kos December 21st, 2000, 00:27 Personally I like it. Simple is stunning if you ask me and I get paid to do this stuff :)
The only suggestions I have is on the main page make the bottom frame abit taller and non resizeable and you mignt want to change the link color to like white or a cream color the big bright green does not fit in to well.
Other then that it looks good so keep on keepin on I say and good luck.

Sounds a lil fishy that a 12 year old will have a FULL version of vBulletin.... How'd you come up with $160?? Mommy and Daddy buy it?? Or did you get it from a warez site?? Seems strange that a personal website would about a copy of vBulletin... Especially since the person is 12 years old.... and has a mediocre website...
Get my drift...
Sorry for my concern -- I'm a paying vBulletin license holder... Just seems strange....
Coolin December 21st, 2000, 23:31 According to Chicken, use phpBB and delete VBB now. You go Chicken! BTW, I just checked out phpBB and it looks pretty nice for a free product.
JacklePoP December 22nd, 2000, 04:16 [1] The default font type means...blah...
[2] Version 4? Well, that's a nice name...
[3] Links don't work.
[4] Make the frames non-resizable and push it up. I can't see the links below...or maybe you intended it that way. ;)
Erm, these are only what i could think of right now...heh
Devine Kos December 24th, 2000, 06:14 Hey Nick I would be happy to give you a tour of my clients websites just let me know when you want it. I have all the the contracts and photocopies of all my checks if you would like to see them as well. On a final note try not to judge when you yourself have not been judged understood ?

You know you are one ****in pain in the ---. You can't take a joke, you can't take advice, you can't follow the rules. All you do is ----- ----- ----- and act like you own the god damn place, and you've only posted here for a few days. ;) Means a joke, UNDERSTOOD? No shut the **** up and stop running your mouth.
Devine Kos December 24th, 2000, 20:24 I am the one breaking the rules ? you're joking again right ? And who cares how long I have been here does it make me less entitled to my opinion then you "oh god of message boards ?" As far as you first reply to my post goes I took it as an insult as that is what it seemed to look like to me but even at that I did not personally assult you by cussing you out. Now if you would like to continue this fantasy of yours then I would be more then happy to give you my real address or you can give me yours so we can settle this matter in a different way. Let me know what you decide there nick cause it does not matter to me either way.
Daniel Crabtree December 26th, 2000, 15:32 It looks far too plain and simple.
Text shouldnt be centered, green clashes.
As some of the people mentioned earlier it does look like a kid designed it.
You want to try to make it look like an adult designed it.
Wish I could show you the sites I made when I was 12, they were rather simple by todays standards, but still much more complex than yours, if you are just starting out and you are tring to learn, then thats great. But try and learn to make more adult looking sites, unless its targeted towards kids.
As for the vBulletin being warez. Although that may be quite likely with him being 12. I had alot of money when I was 12 and would easly be able to afford that. But as you mention for a personal site, he should have gotten a free message board. If he did buy it, it would be such as waste.
Technics December 26th, 2000, 15:47 Design - it's ok but very simple needs jazzing up a bit.
Warez - I've reported you to vbulletin and freedom2surf.
Have a nice day.
Nfau December 31st, 2000, 00:26 firstly, you have already broken the law, if your 12

jvv December 31st, 2000, 05:55 Don't forget, alex has wealthy parents, they were gonna get him an OC-3 server (some will remember this thread a while back)
Anyways, on the matter of vBulletin vs. PHPbb, I tried both, and while vBulletin is more mature and feature rich, I prefer PHPbb. They have a great development team who are taking suggestions serious, and they reply almost immediatly to messages on the BB.
I think that in future version PHPbb will become better than vBulletin, especially since it's free, and it will stay that way. So why pay 160$ if you can get simular for free.
MatrixTeen88 December 31st, 2000, 10:16 people i am banned for not abiding by the coppa or whatever so this is my last and final message for a while. i am sorry if i have made you mad, please frogive me.. have a happy newyear and see ya on January 28,2000 when i turn 13 yippe!!
-Alex
btw: the new site is @ dim8.net/~alex
Mrh0ax December 31st, 2000, 10:50 i see you actualy paid for something :)
webhosting that is one step closer
Robert December 31st, 2000, 12:04 I thought Dimension 8 WebHosting could use the skills that Alex has.. the good skills I mean. But it's a shame that he has given Dim8 a bad reputation by being part of it. I have removed him from Dimension 8 and deleted his site, which was a free site. His actions prior of being part of Dimension 8 have been so bad that he had Dimension 8 look bad.
rockergrrl December 31st, 2000, 12:08 Just so you know Alex...
I'm keeping tabs on you... as well as others on the board...
If I see VB on your website... I'm going to report you and you'll have to authenticate your license to the owners of vBulletin.
I'm a licensed vBulletin owner... I'm not going to let anyone who is suspiciously using a copy of vBulletin let go free... It wouldn't be the first time I reported illegal usage of vBulletin or UBB for that matter.
Buh Bye Now...
rockergrrl
Prince January 3rd, 2001, 02:12 I'm 15
http://server45.hypermart.net/shivraj/
I dont suck...
Omari January 3rd, 2001, 07:12 don't get the guy in trouble... he is only 12, he can't afford it so he got it free... big deal... its not like any one is losing any thing... people who report people for stuff like that need to just mind their own business unless they work for the company who's product he got for free...
rockergrrl January 3rd, 2001, 09:50 I'm not going to let it go....
Using a Pirated copy of vBulletin is illegal. Its the same thing as Warez.
So if I can't afford say.... Photoshop 6.... and I downloaded it from a warez site... Its ok... Because I found it for free...because I can't afford to buy it myself??
Warez is anything you got illegally. Scripts, Programs, etc... Warez is Warez is Warez...
I reported him to James one of the owners of vBulletin... He should be acting on it any day now.... F2S will probably be deleting his website...
Plus... I have an obligation to act upon anything illegal happening on this bulletin board -- that's my job as a moderator.... If you don't like it... tough! :)

What a DUMB statement. We vB license holders want to get updates for the product. vBulletin is still the best board around and once phpBB will be finished they will already release vB2 which is seriously the best board ever. The peopl who work on that software need to get paid, the company needs to get money for further promotion and development.
If everybody would use warez we would still work on DOS. You can rent a vB licence for as little as 30$/year, which is almost nothing compared to the quality of the product.
Being 12 is no excuse. His parnets should keep a closer eye on him, till he's 13 or whenever.
Omari January 3rd, 2001, 11:04 whats dumb is how you could waiste your time to get someone else in trouble... you get nothing out of it, vb gets nothing out of it... if you were to tell me that you downloaded paint shop pro from a warez site i wouldn't go tell on you... its none of my business... if you were to go to a store and steal a copy of paint shop pro it would be different... stores have to pay for each copy they get... that would be like them buying it for you... but when you download it off the net it is different... you are not taking anything from anyone... if i paid alot of money for somthing and someone else got the same thing for free illegally would i be jealous like you guys obviously are? probly... but would i be a "player hater" and try to get that person in trouble which does not benefit anyone at all? nope... i am not saying what he did is right but its not really wrong either... its a damn script that was made available to download... your acting like he robbed a bank... no offense but... hmm how can i say this... you sound like the type of person commonly refered to as a "tattle tale" by little kids and "tattle tales" are the kind of people that you just hate... do you not realize how many people are using pirated scripts and programs and games? not that i am or any thing but telling on one person is not going to change any thing... if i had sold as many copies of the same damn script that vb has sold i would not even care about how many people are using it for free... they are already getting over on people by charging so much... thats why i use ikonboard... not that i could afford vb anyway... i hope you feel good about your self... damn... i just now waisted my time just like you... trying to defend a criminal made me waiste probly the same amount of time that you waisted sending an e-mail to vb... oh well, nothing personal, just think its kinda dumb that you would purposely get someone in trouble who has done nothing to you...
Omari January 3rd, 2001, 11:10 by the way... if i got caught with a pirated version of vb by either my hosting company or vbulliten i would simply switch hosting companies and move on with my life...
it would be pretty funny if this guy's script is not really from a warez site...
drunkmule January 3rd, 2001, 18:43 I think his site sucks too
razor January 3rd, 2001, 20:25 I agree with Omari. Why do u even care what he does? And if u did rip off Adobe Photoshop 6, good. Why let the big companies who will spend thousands on software, have all the proffesional software???? If i didnt dl some of my warez i would still be makin webpages that sucked and i would never get anywhere.
Nick January 3rd, 2001, 20:59 I'm not gonna take sides here, but I'd like to add a tid-bit of information for you people to think about.
Unfortunityly, warez will always exist in some way, shape, or form. However, if it didn't exist, you wouldn't need it. Might sound strange, but it's absolutely true. If software companies didn't have to deal with illegal versions of software floating around, the prices WOULD BE lower. Now you're thinking ''Those greedy bastards want my money, they'd have high prices anyway... blah, blah, blah, bull----.'' Well, that isn't true. Look at it this way, prices start out a bit high on pretty much all things. They gradually decrease in price because of competition; therefore, they're cheap. This cannot be the case in software because prices are forced to shoot strait back up because of lost money from warez. So instead of prices rising, they would lower without warez. Kind of ironic that the purpose of warez contradicts itself, eh ;).
Todd January 4th, 2001, 15:35 The point has been argued both ways. If you want to debate about warez and the impact it has on software makers then take it to the General forum.
Otherwise this thread is going nowhere, and because Alex isn't currently allowed to post new messages on the forum he can't respond.
Therefore the thread is locked.
