Looking for a free site with the following features:
30 MB + space
No ads or only a small ad at the bottom
Prefer FTP upload
Good reliable speed
Allows a long web site name (/yourname format is ok), many only allow 3-12 characters.

I am currently trying Brinkster out.

Any good recommendations?

All I can think of with no ads & ftp is:

Topzite (http://www.topzite.com)
and
CFM-Resources (http://www.cfm-resources.com/)

Thanks everyone for the replies,

Does anyone have any comments on the speed and reliability of Brinkster

So far I have been trying it out and it looks alright. You can upload 5 files at a time thru their browser interface which is kind of a pain, but much better than one at a time. Their upload feature hasn't failed yet and is pretty fast as is my web site. I don't know if they have any .zip or .exe type restrictions, but I personally don't need that.

I also don't need ASP or database support at this time and that kind of scares me a little. I hope they setup each site to run in its own process (surely they do) or one bad script could take down the whole server. I wonder how they handle performance hog scripts?

On a side note does the guy on their home page look like a young William Shattner or what :D

topzite is not accepting new members and has to be one of the most unprofessional looking sites I have seen.

CFM-Resources whole site seems slow to me. Very slow.

Thanks for the tips though.

By the way I also tried www.freewebz.com and it is terribly slow and you can only upload one file at a time to their web site. My home page takes about 10 times as long to load as Brinkster. Brinkster is almost instant where freewebz takes any where from 3 to 10 sec.

Here try it out for yourself. (By the way the site is not complete so none of my links are up and running, the home page is all that is up there at this point)

http://www25.brinkster.com/jmcginn/

Brinkster doesn't allow the long names, but I will just a use a redirection service to get that I guess.

Does anyone have any experience with liquid2k? I looked at their site, but I have not tried it yet. I could get away with 20MB if their service is somehow superior to Brinkster.

Anyway, if you want you can email me @ furrypandy@pacific.net.sg
