Ideally, the perfect free host should have the following (yes, I know this isn't possible) from a scale of importance from 1-5 (5 being most important)
FTP Based Uploading (5)
>25 Megs Space (5)
Domain Support (4)
>50 Megs Space (4)
PHP (4)
CGI (4)
SSI (3)
>100 Megs Space (3)
Telnet Account (3)
MySQL (3)
"Unlimited" Space (2)
Site Promotion Tools/Cross Promotion/Button Exchange (2)
A POP3 Email Account (2)
Ability to Host others (1)
Multiple POP3 Email Accounts (1)
Log Access/Etc. (1)
Also, in terms of ads:
- No Ads is great
- Choice Ads are good
- Mandatory top ads are okay
- Popups/Frame ads are terrible.
I hope this helps FWPs decide what to give and what not to give. Wouldn't it be funky if they actually provided all those things?
