Greetings,

RedRival will be charging for FTP access in the New year. My latest Update in the Support Forums explain this intiative, but, essentially, the resources consumed by FTP far outweigh the benefit of having FTP as a free feature(by-passing all opportunity to receive money for the feature). Even some forced-ads FWPs don't have FTP as a feature, while those who do are compensated through the ads on member pages.

It is simply a logical step for RedRival to act in a financially responsible and business-like manner, in order to preserve the Free Web Hosting model we currently enjoy.

Note that RedRival also employs a File Manager which many visitors have claimed to be one of the best(Vlinto by CustomCGI.net), as well as web-based FTP, which will remain free to all users. The next version of the File Manager, coming soon, will be even better.

And at $12 per year, I'm positive we've hit an ultra-competitive price-point while retaining the ad-free service.

Suffice to say, RedRival is nowhere near dead, we are not dying and, in fact, we are rolling into the New Year better than ever, able to offer a more reliable, faster and painless experience for the visitor.

Farewell,

Matt;

Im really sorry to see that Redrival has to resort to charging for FTP, although I DO understand your requirements to do so. Im just really sorry to see this happen. My problem over the week or so has been accessing Redrival at all. I know you are still in the midst of upgrading but do you have any idea WHEN Redrival will again be available????

Greetings,

You have been having trouble accessing RedRival completely? We have not performed any upgrades during this week and I'm positive no service problems have arose during this most recent 1-2 weeks.

What geographic location are you located in? I have heard of certain ISPs on different backbones have trouble accessing Sprint's(who are lines are leased from), some times. But, I'm certain that you shouldn't have been having problems accessing RedRival. Even at RedRival's own forums, I haven't read any complaints about such a problem in a long while.

Farewell,

Yep, I havent been able to access Redrival for nearly a week. The last time I was able to get to the site was Dec 13, this is during the time that FTP was going to be worked on, so I figured Id just try after the weekend. (At that time there was a message in the forums about FTP being unavailable 15-18 Dec) Unfortunately I havent been able to get to the site since then.
I just tried again and it still wont come up. I get a message that says "there is no response, the server could be down or is not responding" Ive been trying at different times thru the day.. geographically Im on the east coast, in North Carolina and use RoadRunner as my ISP.... not having any problem getting other sites at all, just Redrival.

Matt, I didn't have problems earlier in the week, but I can't get to it tonight. Just recently when I tried I got the Red Rival is down for maintenance message. I don't know if this is a related issue, but the ezboard the MyRival team is using is running slow to stopped, too. All the other ezboards seem OK. Theirs is serving an ad for RR, so maybe that's a related issue, maybe not.

Forgot to add my location - I'm in New York, using a local ISP.

Hello,

susmer: Very strange. Tonight we have been performing upgrades and the server may not have been available, but during the past week or two, nothing should have stopped you from viewing RedRival.

psalzer: The ezboards shouldn't be slower for MyRival than other ezboards, as they are hosted by a totally separate company from RedRival. I believe the ad they are serving also comes from a separate company, other than us, which may be slowing it down. Also, if that ezboards is referencing images, for example, on our server, it wouldn't be able to find those during out Upgrade downtime tonight.

Thanks,
bye...
