Try 2 letters and a number. That's how I got www.xt7.net (http://www.xt7.net/).

Try afternic.com or greatdomains.com for people selling domains. You might even try looking on ebay.
But you aren't going to get one for cheap, so if you don't have much to offer, you might just be wasting your time in searching.

3 letter .net domain names are going for rather cheap on Afternic.
Try out
http://www.afternic.com/index.cfm?CurrentPage=2&a=auctions&sa=all&range=res&cat=48
3 letter .com names are more expensive though...
So its quite possible to buy one 3 letter .net for +-100$.
The problem is that im an European guy, not US.
Wire transfer is expensive on Afternic. I dont see how i could use that service for the low priced domains im looking for...

wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww www.com
wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww www.net
wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww www.org
are all taken :)
i don't know how someone can end up there though.. its the longest domain allowed and they'd have to fall asleep on their keyboard for exactly 67 keystrokes of w..

I think it's hillarious that people even register domains like these. It totally defeats the primary purpose of domains and DNS server which is to make it easier to access websites (so you don't have to remember 4 octets of an IP address!) I don't see why anybody would want a 67-character domain name, but who am I to judge.

This topic would be better suited for the domain names forum, but I read through all of the forums generally...

hmmph..
last check for all 7 domains.. even though i registered s9r.com on jan 1.. they are all taken now.. all 10 domains are now gone :\
umm.. i change some of the coding in my domain finder program thing (written in perl) and looked for all 4 and 5 letter words in the dictionary :) there is no 4 letter words.. there are a few 5 letter ones.. but its nothing we'd actually say out loud.. their acronyms and abbreviations..
addnl.com
comdg.com
dlitt.com
drily.com
exptl.com
haply.com
prosy.com
rnzaf.com
smsgt.com
supvr.com
thegn.com
unrwa.com (.org taken by united nations registry and work association)
are the only 5 letter words in the dictionary..
i guess there are no more 'good' domains? :)
i even did a prefix/suffix search.. where it looked for things like ebuy and ibuy and stuff.. but all the good ones are gone..
not taken:
iiou.com
begnow.com (lol)
anyster.com
jotster.com (sounds like a blogger type program)
mmm... the search for a good domain continues..

oh i didn't reply for awhile cause i couldn't get my smtp server working.. i had to reply through yahoo mail
does having a .net really descrease the value of a domain name that much?
when all the .com's are taken i'm sure people will go with .net's and it'll go up in value..
but then again.. i wouldn't want to have a site like eblahsomething.net and then some other guy has a eblahsomething.com with a site that is either 10 times more popular than mine or makes my site look really bad..

Or they turn the .com into a porno site and *you* start getting hatemail.
Or they go to the .com since that's what we're all trained to do, and you lose hits.
Or since the .com was registered first, they attempt to sue you for something or other (doesn't mean they'll win, but anyone can file papers).
Just a few of the possibilities.
(BTW, I took iiou.com - not bad, it just kinda appealed to me, thankx!)
