I think my new monitor has a killed a pixel (or whatever you call it). There is a black dot, smaller than a . always on the screen in the same place in whatever resolution. And it's not on the screen, its in the screen. Is this normal to happen? Or is it a faulty monitor. What should I do, I keep getting distracted by it :p
[ADD]It's a ViewSonic E70
[ADD]BTW, in 1280x1024 it is right above:

I have the exact same brand/type monitor as you!
If you just bought it I would suggest to go to the store you bought it from and ask for a replacement.

it once happened on my LCD screen. It has one dot and doesn't change too. You know what?
One day, when I changed the wallpaper or doing something, I noticed it dissapeared! Perhaps you have to wait a while. I waited about a week.

Guess mine was never annoying, the dot was somewhere on the very right of the Internet Explorer menu toolbar, in the windows logo there.

All speckles aren't up in that corner. Surprise! ;)
Mine was right where I like the focused line, a little above the center of the screen. :devious2:

At the very very very very right side of the screen, very very very unnoticable. Maybe it isn't, maybe some LCD stuff that lights the screen. Anyway, its behind the scrollbar in internet explorer.

Dead pixels aren't that uncommon and, to some extent, they're to be expected. I don't remember what the cut-off point was, I think it was something like five, but anything under that amount of dead pixels is considered satisfactory (dead classified as either always off, black, or always on, white). You can try exchanging it for a new one, but if you've only got one dead pixel they don't have to give you one.
Dead pixels are one of the main drawbacks of LCD monitors.

oh that sucks. it would be soo annoying. the store he bought it at probobly doesn't know enough about dead pixels or whatever. so you should be able to return it fine

at most stores

Usually, not always, but the thing is if the number of dead pixels is within the acceptability level then they don't consider the monitor to be defective and it won't be covered by whatever warrantees/guarantees they might have on it.

I suppose I'll just live with it, you can only see it on a light coloured background anyway. I don't want to be going back to the store and ask for a replacement just because of one tiny dot about half the size of a fullstop but if I get anymore i'll take it back. I got a 2 year warranty anyway. :)
