Ok, I'm really bored, so I'm attempting to find the average height of a FreeWebSpace.net forum member...

So how tall are you?

**In inches please, if you need to switch from metric to standard click here (http://www.allmath.com/metric.asp) for a conversion tool.**

People are getting bigger and bigger. Back in the day 6'4 would be considered huge at age 16. I have a friend who was 6'1 when he was 12. he is 6'11 now, and hes 16. its really wierd.

Ok, I have come to a conclusion using 18 different heights gathered from this thread (Tater's excluded cause I don't know what the heck a 'hand' is :p). So, the average height of a FreeWebSpace.net Forum member is:

Aproximately: 69.94 inches which comes out to 5 feet 9.94 inches and for you metric people, that would be 177.65 centimeters or 1.77 meters.

man.... I leave the forum for a few months, and what happens? everybody turns into a giant!

okay.. time to lower the average (by about .20 inches).. I'm 5'9" .. taller than both of my parents, and most of my aunts and uncles..

my mom is 5'1" (!!) my dad is 5'7" or 5'8".. my brother is currently stuck at 5'3" .. he's 15. I'm 17 and 6.3 months old.. :)

I'm in the Civil Air Patrol (http://DelawareWing.org) (kinda sorta like JROTC), and some of the younger cadets are getting tall! one has been over 6'0 since he was 13, and another is 15 and 5'11 already... I'm feeling short, but I'm a 1st Lietenant, so I outrank most of them. hehe

5,676 feet
i dont know i used babylon translator
but iam 1,73 mIn America, we use a comma for a grouping symbol and a period to denote a decimal.

"5,676" means five-thousand six-hundred and seventy-six feet.

"5.676" means five and six-hundred seventy-six thousandths feet, which is what you meant. Of course, no American would ever say that. We would say 5'8".

"5'8"" is read five-foot eight.
I'm not even going to try and memorize the wierd " and ' symbols. It's very simple. An apostrophe means foot, a quotation mark means inch.

"5'9"" means five-foot nine (you don't say "nine inch", inch is just implied. Sometime "foot" is implied too, if someone says "five-nine", they mean 5'9").

"5"9'" is simply wrong, but I guess you could read it as five inches plus nine feet.

...unless you're talking about degrees, then a degree symbol means degree, a apostrophe means minute, and a quotation mark means second.

"1°2'5"" means one-degree, two minutes, and five seconds. But you weren't talking about that.

"Wierd" is misspelled, it should be "weird". Remember the rule:
I before E
Except after C
Or when sounded as "I"
Or "A" as weigh
Neither, weird, foreign, leisure
Seize, forfeit, and height
Are the common exceptions spelled right
But don't let the C-I-E-N words get you uptight!English is a fun language, isn't it? So is English Standard (inch, hand, link, foot, yard, fathom, rod, chain, furlong, statute mile, nautical mile, league). It makes absolutely no sense and that's the beauty of it! I think its sole intent is to confuse the foreigners. :D

I kid you not:

I have increased my height from 6ft 3ins to 6ft 4ins= AMAZING!

I was measured by a doctor who noticed the change when I went in to give up smoking.

I have been practising yoga and the 'Alexander Technique" which seem to have stretched my height/back; I never intended this to happen and was already hitting my head on low ceilings.

Actually, just taking the first site from a quick google search: "Averages for modern Americans are just over 5’ 9" for men, and about 5’ 3 ¾" for women."

The average height you get by asking people is more like 6'4", though. Either shorter people don't answer, or they add a few inches when asked.

Tae Kwon Do. My parents had put me in it way back when. I was always short tempered and always getting into fights. So they put me in that so I'd learn to control myself. Back then I guess I felt I had something to prove, and now know I dont have to prove myself to anyone but me. Tae kwon do is a soft art. When I get in a fight, I dont hurt the other person...I let them wear themselves out. I'm better described as a passifist who knows how to defend himself extremely well :-) That's the reason I have so much patience now....being a hostmaster, you gotta have a lot of that..

So dont think just because I have a few cheap fabric belts, that I go around being a ------. I will attempt to avoid a fight if at all possible..

I thought we were talking about height? I simply pointed out the fact that not all short people get their butts whooped all the time..LOL (though it'd be nicer to be taller :confused2 )

Well, I agree with a recent post that says people will lie about their height.

I am 6ft 4ins and weigh 92-94 kilos but wherever I go, there is a lack of people the same height as me.

If everyone who has posted is 6ft 4 on this web site, it would explain why I never see people the same height as me (because you are all at home on the Internet!!!).

Why bother lying, what will it achieve: if you have exagerated your height to impress, you are only lying to yourself.

I am not impressed by the shorties pretending!!!

Grow some inches.

I recently sulked about the responses to the height question.

There are a few people the same height as me (6ft 4ins) as I said recently but the web has no physical influence.

In a pub, many will avoid confrontation with me due to my build and height (and varying moods) but in a chat room...everyone is up for it.

2ft tall midgets having a go at 9ft titans = it shows how virtual the web really is.

The people who do this ('flame' or cause agro) in real pubs will usually get flattened by the blokes my height. It is annoying when 12 year old kids pose as older and abuse everyone coz they think it is cool....they are lil' bastards!!!

I prefer chatting in real situations because my level of anger with chat room terds just ends up pissing me off (and I can just sit back and do nothing)!

Who else has been denied their physical presence in situations such as this?

If you would like confirmation of my present status, ask me any question about business, marketing, or the Internet.

I have just finished an MSc by research - so the bloke who thinks I am 12 can get lost.

Also, you can find out my details at any Library by asking for the electoral role (you have to be over 18 for this - so I guess that rules you out bogusBOY!!!).

As for the height and the pub bravado - come and meet me, then we'll see who is right.

If you are an adult how comes and you sound so immature?
Maybe you have some kind of complex and your height is the only thing you have to give you confidence?

The caveman period is long over. We live the guns era and that renders any advandage you might have in a fight useless.

Also, you can find out my details at any Library by asking for the electoral role (you have to be over 18 for this - so I guess that rules you out bogusBOY!!!).

As for the height and the pub bravado - come and meet me, then we'll see who is right.

You didn't get the point of that post did you? You were basically saying that your were 6'4" and everyone else who says they are are lying.

Why bother lying, what will it achieve: if you have exagerated your height to impress, you are only lying to yourself.

I am not impressed by the shorties pretending!!!

Grow some inches.

"On the Internet, no one knows you're a dog" (or short).

Judging by some of the words you used, I'm guessing you're from England or one of those places across the Atlantic, so how do you know how tall people are in America or Canada or any of the other home countries of the people who frequent here. Just because you're 6'4" and considered really tall in your country doesn't mean it's extremely tall in another country.

I was joking about the 12 year old thing, but from your reply, you might very well be 12.

O.K., if you suddenly try to argue that America has bigger everything I think you are clearly missing the point.

Humans come in fairly standard sizes (exc. pigmies) but the US does not produce average heights of over 6 feet tall (get a Bell curve understanding). If you want to believe yanks are all titans, feel free, but I do not.

My reply has been dumbed down becaue you are young and would not have a firm grasp of the ENGLISH language that you so often get wrong!

PS "we live the guns era": well, if you live by the sword, you die by the sword. In the UK we do not have guns. I would never want to see guns because all 16 yr old nerds with a problem with the height would probably shoot me!

You want guns? You deserve them!

Maybe guns are not legal but if somebody wants to find one he might be able to. And what about hunting guns and other kind of weapons?Even knifes and broken bottles can do the job.
In a few words what I am saying is that you should not think that your height gives you any advantage in a fight, because all it takes is somebody thats crazier than you are to bring you down.

2.54 cm in an inch, 12 inches in a foot, so 173 cm would in fact be 5'8"

I am 6ft 4ins and weigh 92-94 kilos but wherever I go, there is a lack of people the same height as me.

Wow, everyone around here is so young... and so short.

Speaking of short, I need to find some taller girls. It's not fun being 6'4 and your girl is only 4'11.

I agree that some people are mad enough to take on anyone (tall or short).

I have had years of martial arts training (wing chun, karate, escrima) and very rarely lose my temper (and never look for fights), so I am not too bothered by most assailants - but guns are very good (bad) at killing people compared to bottles and knives!

USA has THE highest death rate from firearms - we (UK) have nowhere near your death rate (including bottles, knives, guns etc).

As for hunting guns - we do not have them either!!! (except for the controlled use of shotguns which are extremely difficult to get hold of)

Moral of the story = I am tall and have not been beaten up by anyone (that is not an invite) probably due to height, build and training. However, no-one is so good as to dodge a bullet.

Guns are designed to kill period! There is nothing macho or big about pulling a trigger - which is all the more reason never to use one.

Guns don't kill people, people kill people. The UK has a sky-rocketing rate of robberies and murders that are using knives because cops are not allowed to carry guns.

Where I live now, the crime rate is one of the lowest for a megaopolis. The cops carry MP-5s.

Have you ever carried a gun on you and then having somebody pissing you off REALLY badly?
It happened to me, and if others didn't manage to stop me from pulling the gun that guy would now be dead and me in jail !!

By not having the means to kill somebody right away gives you time to calm down and think more logically.

I am against people having weapons.

First off you are incorrect, you could of picked up a metal rod, a knife or something else to kill that person. So we should ban kitchen knifes? I see constitutional violations here. If you really want to continue this discussion open up a new thread, I don't have the time.

There is nothing much to discuss. I said what i think. Its not so easy to kill somebody with a knife or a metal rod as it is with a gun.
The point though is that you shouldn't carry any weapons (why carry a kitchen knife?)
Anyways ... this is the wrong thread for this so I will not say anything more on this ..
