View Full Version : some host that won't delete my website maybe?

well, it seems that freewebsites.com has deleted my website.

If you're wondering, it was a website with various "modified" drivers for 3dfx video cards on it. The zip files are all about 1.5-2.5 megs in size. I'm pretty sure they deleted it because it used too much bandwidth, but I'm not sure it was even that popular(didn't put a hit counter on that page).

So now I'm looking for a free host to put these up on. Here's the "requirements":

- 25 megs of space(preferrably 30+ if possible(yeah right;)))
- allows files up to 2.5 megs(I could split them up but don't really want to)
- won't delete my website if it uses lots of bandwidth(I don't care if they "disable" it temporarily)
- any kind of ads, but preferrably nothing that creates new browser windows(not popups or popunders, that is)

Probably really hard to find in a free host, but if anybody can help, please do!

They have download pages, but you won't have to worry about them deleting the files like say angelfire or tripod would.

FTP upload is a must. But no CGI or anything like that. I use my vr9 account for that stuff(and no, I wasn't hotlinking files off my freewebsites account)

ZackNetwork no longer supports zip files or exe files. So I guess that means that I won't be using that. :(

it is illegal...it's a server that's abusing a host. free dynamic dns...read up on it, that's illegal.

eh ?

Re-type it .. you got me confused .. they have their own UUNET T1 ( Fractional ) 512k at the moment i believe.

*ahem* do they (they meaning the host) have (have meaning currently use) their(again, the host) own (belonging to them) T1 line...

you already answered that anyway.

i get the drift of it though ...

A domain will be bought when our DNS software testing is completed.

Then .. they will have

ns1.domainname IP ADDRESS
ns2.domainname IP ADDRESS

so i can host my domain on it :D

ok...not illegal anymore...I still don't trust it...I can think of a lot better hosts.

Ok even more confusing but .. its a RENTED connection .. at the relevent price per month .

For there current plan they have signed a 1 YR Contract @ 512k

( available to burst up to 1.544Mbit )

I'm probably gonna go with prohosting, don't know about crosswinds, I know they fixed the slowness problem(or so I've heard), zacknetwork only accepts some sites(probably not mine, it's mostly files, and besides, they don't do zips), and I've never heard of that webz one, so I didn't trust it.

Is crosswinds or prohosting better for a place that has mostly downloads(nothing illegal)?

Cracker

Crosswinds may allow download sites, but they seem to be down a lot lately.

I think you're probably making a good choice with prohosting...the only better choice is paid hosting.
