How many/what kind of popups would you be willing to tolerate on your website, assuming they were 72 hours timed (the popup attack would only hit your visitor once during his or her visit)

Yeah, do it T35 style. Or you could do like 9CY, and only show one pop-under per browser session.

I find 9cy's pop-under very irritating. I would like 1 popup.

if only hits the visitor once then 1 is good but don't think it get you much revenu, I would go for banners anyways

What's so irritating about 9cy's pop-under? It isn't any more irritating than T35's.

I'd prefer 2 user-placable banners on each page rather than 1-2 popups per session.

It doesn't matter if it's 72 hours or 7200...They're not coming back anyway.

Movable embeddable ads are ok there not annoying :)

i would say you might do better with that instead of popups,
popups scare visiters away

1 popup. No embedded banners. One pop up, that's it. Especially if all you're using is a basic hosting deal.

Hmm, so two popups, with a one show cookie (one ip will see ads only once) would be bareable for most of you?

If that's what you need to stay in business with, than by all means yes.

That doesn't happen with my site.

I could live by one pop-up and one user placeable banner...
