Go read http://www.----microsoft.com/content/ms-hidden-files.shtml

To sum it up a bit.
- There are files on your computer that microsoft try to keep secret, you cannot view them in windows and only in dos if you know the exact location.
- These files store all sites that you have visited EVER. You can find a site that you have visited 2 years ago.
- They also log all of your outlook email correspondence, all email received and sent.
- Know that program "Find Fast"? Ever wondered what it does? It indexes all the files on your harddrive.

Read it - http://www.----microsoft.com/content/ms-hidden-files.shtml

It shocked me.

Why do I get the feeling that this was already mentioned?

Probably, but it is the first thing I have heard of it.

You can disable findfast.

In internet options you can set your kept file size to the lowest you want. I have mine set at 2Mb. The default is huge!

And don't use OE :)

Are we talking about the index.dat files here? Otherwise this is new to me too.
<<ADD>>
Oh, ----microsoft! That site was up on alist. Everyone said it was a hoax. I had already followed some of the instructions. All I found were normal files I was aware of already.

Akalon, if you don't know the index.dat files can be deleted if you boot into DOS.

It happens all the time. Same with waybackmachine. It was all over at the same time it was last posted here. In 6 months or so it will happen again.

this sucks: Windows ME doesn't have the command prompt thing, so I can't delete it without using MS-DOS prompt(the 'fake' one).

Ahh anyway findfast.exe doesn't function properly for me :p

I don't really care whether Microsoft keeps the info or not.

Do you know something? They didn't indicate the Temporary Internet Files(cache) so they may not know anything about them... :D

[add]they may know about them, but I just did this: Edit>Select all in temporary internet files. and then i hit the delete icon.

[add2]btw i see files inside the alphanumeric folders. fu*kmicrosoft had lied to me instead.

Anyway, the hidden file cannot be seen even if you set it to show invisible files anyway. You have to follow those instructions for it to work.

I would rather have them help some than just hide the info and let Microsoft get away with this.
