Hi, I have some questions to ask to people who know how co-branded free web space works or who have signed up with such service;
I just signed up with Excelland.com to offer free unlimited web space from my site http://www.bigbeautifulbackgrounds.com but there are questions I didn't find the answers in their FAQ;
My site is hosted by AtlantaWebhost.com and it cost me some money every month for hosting on their server.
When I signed up with Excelland.com for co-branded web space, they told me to change my DNS so that it will be directing to their server; Now, I'm not too familiar with this yet, does this mean my site won't be hosted by AtlantaWebhost anymore? Will I have to transfer my entire site on Excelland's server?
If yes, I won't have to pay for hosting anymore, right?
Right now I'm using Burst for my banner ads, will I have to put Excelland's ads instead and say goodbye to Burst?
Also, my site has a quite big amount of transfer per month (up to 16 gigs of bandwidth) and use many megs of space; Do you think it can be a problem if Excelland host my site?
I e-mailed them some of these questions but they didn't reply as of yet;
Also, will I constantly have to monitor web sites in my community for warez and porn? Or will Excelland do that?
Many questions huh? (You don't have to answer this one!)

I hope someone will be able to help me, I'm quite excited about this.
I could also sign up with http://www.communityarchitect.com, but they offer only 20MB, which is, to me, less interesting; However they give 50% of all impressions right away, compared with Excelland.com, who give 10% in the beginning, but go up to 50% as the traffic gets bigger. I don't mind. Anyways, hope to get answers soon!

Max

I think the people here seem to like http://www.communityarchitect.com/ better than Excelland.com for co-branding.

Try doing a search for excelland and seeing what you come up with. (http://www.freewebspace.net/forums/search.php)

That is correct. You will not longer have to pay for hosting @ AtlantaWebHost.com. Excelland will host your domain (the main site) for free without any ads. You will have to transfer your entire site to Excelland's server.

Excellend will not place any ads on your site, the main site. So if you want to have your own ads on your site, you can, you can continue to use Burst if you want.

16 gigs of bandwidth a month? I think they might say something to you about it. Probably even kick you off.

You'll have to constantly monitor website sin your community for warez and porn.. I think...

I recommend Community Architect over Excelland for 100 reasons. First off, yes.. Community Architect gives you not only 50% of all impressions but they also allow you to display your own ads on your members pages. It's random. Sometimes their ads will be displayed on your members pages (and you make 50% from those) and other times your ads (such as burst net) will be displayed on members pages (and you make 100% from that).

Also, Community Architect has better servers, faster servers, more features. But, with Community Architect, they do NOT host your main site. You will have to let AtlantaWebHost.com host it.. which is better.

Nah.. not too many. lol. I was bored.

Actually I used to use Excelland for one of my main sites. If you host can allow you to use their IP instead of their DNS address. Most Paying Hosts will allow you to do this. You send Excelland the IP and have them redirect http://www. and any other sub-domains. It's like setupping up your own DNS control Panel @ mydomain.com or centeralinfo.net :D see if it works. IF it doesn't well then, I am sorry .. hehe .. Good Luck!

Robert:
"Sometimes their ads will be displayed on your members pages (and you make 50% from those)"

I received an e-mail from Community architect and it's written:

"The one way that you can make money is to use your 50% of the banner space and sell it to an affiliate".

But it's still interesting though...

Anyways, I'll see what I'll do...

Thanks,

Max

I really really want to offer cobranded free webspace to my 2,000 members but I am not prepared to hand over our very complex DNS to another company.

What I really want to be able to do is point a subdomain @ a FWP and let tham take over from there.

Anyone got a solution for me?

My suggestion is to either:

Offer the .net name for the freespace
Register a similar name fo the FWP portion.

Someting along those lines.
