I'm new at this stuff BUT I bought a $10 domain (actually 3).Thats 84¢ per month? Is there a major free website provider I can steer my domain to? I now have it steered to http://www.freeservers.com/ and all is working aok except one little oddity problem.

I often enjoy editing a website using webtv and a tv set and a regular computer keyboard.I also use a 'real computer".I edit websites by manually entering the html.

Freeservers is aok BUT they have 2 different on-line editors/file managers. One works with webtv and older browsers and the other for normal computer crowd. I use one 'filemanager' and then the 'other' and it screws things up. Most big places only have ONE file manager such as Geocities,Angelfire, etc.(Tripod has this webtv thing also..and it screws up things if you use computer and webtv)

Without any consideration of webtv(which few here would understand) what major free webhosts allow you to steer your domain there? Some places seem to do such IF YOU BUY THE DOMAIN FROM THEM.

REQUIREMENTS:FTP AND ON-LINE FILE MANAGER-(place to enter your own html)

oooooooooooooooooooooo..I'm so tired of smaller free website providers.ONLY BEACUSE THEY COME AND GO LIKE INSECTS.I'd bet the 400+ hosts listed here are all different in 6 months !!!!!! I'm tired of the work to maintain websites with disappearing hosts !!!!! (well..buy a place..right?)

hey...I meant no ill when I made comments about free places not lasting. If anybody was here 2 years ago..3? how many fwp's still around? I try to think all these people have good intentions but its also stressful to the website owner also. i.e. hosts that disappear.

As to 'dreamwater' they have no ftp but it looks like a nice place.-- just have to use browser upload....

I finally steered my domain to http://www.freeyellow.com/ Its a duplicate of http://www.hypermart.net/ but don't think business sites required.(at least freeyellow used to be personal sites)

http://www.freewebspace.net/cgi-bin/db2/db.cgi?sb=1&so=ascend&view_records=1&Language=English&Location=---&FTP=FTP&Browser=Browser&Space=%3E0.0&Adtype=---&Domain=Domain&Title=&mh=10

I have had a site on angelfire for I think 2 or so years... They might have bad ads... but in the end you know your site isn't going anywhere.

Personally, I wouldn't go to freeyellow. They're not reliable as far as I'm concerned... I was somehow cheated or sumthin a few years ago by them, forgotten exactly what now. Anyways, I wouldn't choose freeyellow even if fsn is the last FWP out there (no offense)... and fsn has BIG, UGLY banners at the top and bottom of every page the last time I checked there.

The main reason Fsn places big banners on the top and bottom of your pages because they're one of the few FWP's that ACTUALLY HOSTS PORN SITES! If I were you, I'd stay the hell away from them (unless you have a porn site, of course).

Oops, I've forgotten that they host porn sites... my bad. And HELL no I DON'T have a porn site!!!

In that case, check that. I still wouldn't go over to freeyellow if... erm,.... spree was the last FWP out there!

Spree is okay; I just don't use them because of the 500 k file size limit.

http://www.freeyellow.com/ had a lousy reputation a few years ago BUT now they are under different ownership...same thing as http://www.hypermart.net/

I'm not complaining yet. A $10 domain and it goes to freeyellow just fine as of now.

They have ftp and browser upload and an online file manager to enter your own html. [[ I'll cross my fingers ]]

As to FSN...I could never even get a reply to email nevertheless get a site there. Porn Sites? I don't deal in porn but am guilty of trying some of these free sites to put a site rated above age 2 and they are terrible. They want you to have a heavy hit site oddly but it costs them to have a almost zero hit site? Deletion City.Wheres my website? They seem to sub-contract off free website locations and then make 75% of area of pages their ads.

I saw some place that promoted free adult sites of recent that claimed they did not delete low usage sites and little edited ones BUT would have to find that place again.
