Yea, snow? You Vancouverites are strange. Although this fall, we were saying, "Yea, rain!" It hadn't rained in like 2 months.

A good foot of snow here. Good skiing/boarding already!

I heard about the forecast snow down there, syd.

Up where I am its been snowing for about 4 days on and off. I like snow, but unfortunately I live about 2-2.5 hrs from the nearest hill. Its a bump really. not worth the drive.

I dont insure my ride in the winter; too expensive.

Personally I wish it was summer 24/7 too! I love 30-35ºC too :)

But there's no escaping winter here :( Yeah, I guess Vancouver people are strange compared to the rest of Canada. Our snow (2cm) has already melted (into rain  ), but what can ya do?

If it had stayed, schools would have been closed :D

What? You like it like that? It's supposed to be cold here in Thailand but it's hot like hell.

It never snows here and almost never gets below freezing, but in the winter way too many of the days are like today... slightly above freezing and dense fog. :(

I'll take a 110 (43 C) degree summer day over a 50 (10 C) degree day any time.

It's like 15 (59F) here, unseasonably warm for December.

I like the cold too. The range from -10 to 0 C is very nice. It is very refreshing. Only about 2 or 3 days a year the temp gets over 30 C, and those days are real nice.

I like winter. The days, like I said, when it is just below freezing or above, are real nice. I'm not a skiier, but it's nice to have a little snow. A couple of years ago we had a brown Christmas. We had our sprinkler going on Christmas day. It was weird to have such warm weather at a time when the average temp is usually -20 C.

The snow's just completely melted from the last storm and I'm still trying to delude myself that that will be the last snow of the winter :D.

God, I gotta get out of here.

Im not sure if any of you have heard of the word "bivouac"No, but I have heard of the word "dictionary".

biv·ouac noun
1: a usually temporary encampment under little or no shelter
2a: encampment usually for a night
2b: a temporary shelter or settlement

What's that got to do with anything, were you very cold in one of these once?

The funny thing was that it wasnt even winter. it was august, and I was at ~2600m (roughly 8500 feet)

It snowed last night here in Vancouver...!!!!:) :) :)

although it took me an extra 10 minutes go get from my house to school today...but it's all good!

Oh, and we're not allowed to have snowball fights on our school grounds..damn...otherwise we would get suspended...that sucks!

Same here. The snow is too dry for snoballs right now anyways. If t warms up it will be perfect.

2 years ago we made a huge snowball and rolled it in fron of the main entrance to the school. It took 6 of us to push it.

and on On new years of 2001 (well 3:30 AM new years eve) we "borrowed" a back hoe and attemted to bury some guys pickup. it took a lot more snow than we expected. (Despite the fact we were at a ski hill we couldnt find enouh snow to completely bury it)

No snow: Fine with me.
1 to 20 inches of snow: ----- to get to school. Freezing temperatures make melted snow slippery and I could slip on the platform, fall on the tracks, and get hit by the subway, which runs a bit below street level in my area, and when I come back above street level in Lower Manhattan (7:05 AM), the salt spreaders aren't there yet, since they focus on the main highways (FDR/West Side).

20.01+ inches of snow: Snow day!

You live in the suburbs. It's different. Here in New York, you could live your ENTIRE life without a car:

1. The subway system won't close even with 30 inches of snow. They'll just get rid of it during rush hour, and the salt already laid should take care of a good deal of it.

2. My school is a Board of Education NYC school, and that means we don't close unless they decide we close.

3. My school is the easiest to get to from all 5 boroughs, meaning 26 inches of snow won't budge the Board.

Actually I don't... I live in the second largest "city" in my state.

"City", being surburbia compared to here. :p

Do you have decent public transportation in your "city"? Meaning at least buses that run on time every 2-5 minutes during rush hour, 10-25 midday/evenings, and ~35 off=hours.

I do... in a city of 2-3 million. I'm not sure what the 2nd largest city in Maine is (I'm not American so I don't really know anything about Maine, lol). BTW, that sounds awfully sarcastic. Just because people don't live in a city of 20-30 million people doesn't mean it ain't much of a city, it just means yours is ridiculously overcrowded.

Vancouver practically shuts down at 1 inch of snow, because we aren't used to it. We rarely dip below freezing anyways, our average winter temp is like 5C (35-40F). I wish we had NYC or Toronto weather right now... lucky bastards  :D

Compared to there, yes. Our population is starting to get close to 40,000...

Rush hour?? I can't say we have one of those. Only a couple of times per year.

Public transportation? We have 5 buses that run once every 30 minutes from 6-4 5 days a week. No one uses them though.

A city is defined as being a center of commerce and institutionalized government, as well as a residential area. If it's just a residential area that's moderately populated (houses for all), and lacks the true dynamic quality of a city, then that's a suburb, according to my standards. :p
