Well, I have checked for a domain name if it's available ant it say no. But at the end of the info I see this :

Record last updated on 25-Oct-2001.
Record expires on 30-Oct-2001.
Record created on 30-Oct-2000.
Database last updated on 3-Dec-2001 17:07:00 EST.

What does this mean. That "expires" has to do with the domain or not? Can somebody explain these infos for me. Thanks

"Record created" means when the domain was created/made
"Record expires" means when the domain expires/is made avail.

sometimes hosts put them on hold for a few days, but then they're released

thats whats really important.

Thanks. So I should go and register it now? Or I should wait till it's officialy available. What happens if I apply to register it and somebody else has already got it. Don't know, please explain.

Mika, 'expires' refers to billing. The domain renewal was due on that date. It does not mean when the domain expires/is made avail., as Cyber mistakenly posted. There is a waiting period that most registrars have, plus a certain amount of time once that period is over. Then the domain will 'drop' and become available (about a month and 1/2-ish after expiration date). Until that time, you won't be able to register it.

Ohhh, and I suppose I'll mention that some registrars hold onto some domains long after the expire date, and aren't available for long periods of time (if at all), after the expired date.
