ok folks, time has come to get me a new computer and i was hoping to make a more informed decision this time around. i want an ibm brand computer after having so much trouble with clones. here is a link to a list of computers i am considering
http://commerce.www.ibm.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce/CategoryDisplay?cgrfnbr=2286438&cntrfnbr=1&cgmenbr=1&cntry=124&lang=en_US&scrfnbr=74
if that doesn't work copy and paste it.
basically i want a pentium 4 computer with a 40 or 60 gig hard drive and a good sound and video card. i have some questions about ram and stuff too.
what is Non Parity SDRAM?
and whats the difference between SDRAM and RDRAM?
whats better windows ME or 2000?
is there anything else i should know when buying a computer? geez i want to get it right this time and not get ripped off. please give me some advise guys.
thanks
ps i want plenty o memory too, enough to run like 7 programs at once at least.

i know the in's and out's of ibm. go search dell.com and they might have a better price. if they do then tell ibm and they will match the price. this will help the price of the computer i am guessing

well i'm not going directly through ibm since there are no ibm stores nearby to offer support, so i don't know if i will get the best price but thanks anyways.
also what is the difference between Windows 2000 and windows 2000 professional?
thanks again

I recommend you get an Althon by all means, they are faster than Intel.
When making recommendations for people who want to buy new computers I usually recommend computer stores instead of manufacturers:
http://www.tcwo.com
http://www.newegg.com

Windows 2000 is Windows 200 professional unless otherwise noted.
The only versions of Windows 2000 are:
-Professional
-Server
-Advance Server
-Datacenter Server

Windows 2000 is the general name,
Windows 2k Pro is a part, and so is Win2k Sever, Win2k Advanced Server and Win2k High end server (or something).

there are no ibm stores anywhere (that i know of) but you call up their 1-800 technical support line and before you even send the product back they will have started shipment on a brand new part. So say your monitor breaks you call them, tell them, and they will send a new one on the spot (no waiting for yours to get there) it is great. but whatever.

You can try your luck with those systemV computers they're spamvertising on TV. Athlon XP 1600, 60 GB HD, 32 MB GeForce2 MX AGP, 256 MB (?) DDR RAM, 16x10x32x CD-RW, and some other crap.

You stole my name.
If you have a buest buy, go look around and see what you like - jot it down and maybe you can find it on web for cheap.
