Hi everyone,

This might be a little off the board title but it ties
in with it. I hear that all the smaller isp are making
lots of money and I was wondering how I might go about
making my own isp, what servers would I need, monthly
cost, and phone connections. I have been thinking about
doing this in my small home town for a while. SSo with my
own isp I think I could offer hosting but what are the
best rates on servers. Also is it possible to have the
server located in your house, not where someone else
controls in.

Thanks,

Justin Carrell
P.S
As of right now I am just curious...

you cant host with namedemo and two you use t1s, t2s, t3s and some OC connections that cost a few 5,000$$ apart

Lines are only one expense that you will have. Switches, routers, backup power, etc, plus redundancy of all this, adds up quick.

You can colocate servers somewhere and get all of that for a much cheaper outlay. It will be faster, more secure and more redundant.

The equipment needed for running an ISP is some serious kit, involving banks of modems, multiple lines etc. Also you need the bandwidth to provide these customers access to the net - again some serious money.

It is not the kind of business you want to run from home or on your own.
