http://home.nbci.com/ - abuse these bastards with your huge .zip files all you want; they're rich up to their ears and they have nearly 20 million members (probably), so they won't kick you for using too much bandwidth

Oh yeah, their web space offer is "unlimited," but they have an 11 mb file size limit and an ugly adframe - if those bother you at all.

...NBCi is slow as hell. So your visitors might not want to download since the speed is horrible.

They were never slow for me... in fact they were faster than most.

Thanks for the info! I went to nbci.com and it uploaded my zip file perfectly. But, I can't figure their sight out. It doesn't seem like it is really a webspace for my own website. I can't find a file manager on it at all. In fact, after I uploaded my zip file using the FTP, I couldn't find it on their website. I know it's there because it shows uploaded on my FTP. Please help.

Your website address on Nbci is http://members.nbci.com/yourusername/ . Also, Nbci doesn't offer a "file manager;" all of your files (.zip's, .jpg's, .gif's, .wav's, .htm's, .html's, etc) are to be uploaded solely by their FTP.

Do you, or does anyone out there know of any free webspace providers that zip files and/or mpegs can be uploaded with ease and that offer a file manager to manage your own files with.

livin4.com - slow as $hit (oops, i mean ----), but its for storage. driveway.com - pretty fast and you can link to folders but not files. nbci.com - its xoom people, dont knock the speed its faster than most (maybe all) the other FWP's. and who needs a filemanager. all you need is notepad and WS_FTP. FTP is so much more reliable then those P.O.S. easy and advanced file managers and all that. and some admin tell me who links to "http://www.freewebspace.net/?clicktrade=51731" because my favorites is set to that and i dont feel like changing it. so someones getting money and i dont know who. i'd like to go to their website again. aiight jigga's. pizeace. wheres ron?

Actually, I have gotten used to the FTP as far as managing my files with nbci.com. My mpegs and zips are uploading fine and the speed seems real good. I appreciate the info on nbci.

Thanks!

I just tried to upload an mp3 file to my account with nbci. I got this message from their server on my ftp client:
"We don't allow these kind of files. Sorry"

Geocities is a good place to upload some files. They are pretty fast and reliable. The only problem is they only give 15 megs, but you can sign the rest of your family an account...

Hey,

On uploading those MP3s, could you hide the MP3 in a zip file? Upload the zip file with the MP3 inside? Would that work?

Try it out. maybe split an mp3 into a small portion and zip it so it wont take for ever to upload.

Yes, you can upload an mp3 hidden inside a zip file to Nbci.

i specialize in working with audio codecs and if you still want stereo input, i recommend that you go download windows media encoder 8 beta and have it work at 48 kbps/44 khz Stereo, which gives u 256 Kbps MP3 Audio quality
