I don't remember what year it was, but I was using a really fast 486 DX33 at the time with a whopping 4 megs RAM and a HUGE 250 meg HD

About 6 years now. I was a big fan of Sega at that time and it's because I'm so curious about their website, I got an internet connection. I still remember that at that time, I was like the only one in my class to have an internet connection. Now, almost everyone I know has an internet connection. This is so cool!

It began on a day to my dad's office. I was in his car, and he was talking to my mom about Yahoo!, which was fairly new at the time, and about its success and stuff. My dad said that the search engine was amazing - fast, organized... stuff like that. At the time, the only game I've ever heard of was Doom, Jill of the Jungle (by Epic Megagames, a real boring game) and Privateer (by Origin). They were the only reasons for me to touch a computer.
When we got to his office, he told me that he was going to let me see this cool Yahoo!. So, he booted up the 486 machine, saw the newly installed Win3.1 starting up, and he ran Netscape 2 or 3 (forgot) and showed me how Yahoo! worked and everything, and that's how it all started for me. I think the year was around 1995. Could've been 1996.
Then this middle school cousin told me of Geo----ties, and I started making websites in 1996. Coding HTML was fun, and it was a blast to see people from all over the world visit my page and send me email, and I got hooked on the internet ever since then.

Long story, huh? :)

Same here! My Dad was a county administrator in a small county on the Chesapeake Bay. I would go to his office every weeked (we moved to that county and my dad moved there a few months before we did) and I would just be amazed by everything you could do with computers, especially video games :). At that time, I was about eight years old and in second grade. I think they had some internet type connection but it wasn't untill about five years ago in about fourth grade that we got a PC and then the internet was just sitting there, waiting for me to dive in :D.

Y'all make me feel like an old-timer. I started programming in Fortran on punched cards in 1974. I started doing online conferencing (local BBS's) in 1983, and got involved in Usenet in 1988 when I was in grad school. I have had one or more Bitnet or Internet addresses pretty much continuously since fall '88.

I was skeptical about the Web at first because non-text stuff seemed like a waste of bandwidth to me. I started my web sites in early 1996, and opened the one which has been my life-consuming project on July 1, 1996.
