I like Dreamweaver as it has more features than Frontpage and there are loads of new funtions to d/l off the macromedia site.
I also use notepad to fine tune pages that I produce in dreamweaver

I prefer Dreamweaver Ultradev as I code my pages in asp so it has more asp support than dreamweaver, I also like the fact that it is *more* cross browser compatible than Frontpage, but it is still not perfect so notepad or edit revolution are also programs I use to clean up code :)

I voted other. I use the Namo webeditor (www.namo.com), notepad for specific code changes and Corel Webmaster Suite. Namo has a ton of extra features and so does Corel, but I still use notepad for specific changes in the HTML.

I used to use Notepad, but now I use EditPlus just because it has syntax highlighting.

Thanks for taking part in my little vote. Which ones of those editors are free to download?

I use notepad and editpad myself. Editpad is good for reading messy php and cgi code.

1st Page 2000. (Download at Evrsoft (http://www.evrsoft.com).) Reason: It just does more. There's nothing you can't find somewhere in there.

Actually I still use notepad and the seemingly-no-longer-available click-o-mania more often, since they load faster and most of the time I'm just doing minor HTML edits.

I like PHPed
its the best for php development.
It has all the functions if completes your vars, and it adds all the standard code.
It can be used for:
PHP
CGI
HTML
SQL
and txt

Its has a few annoying features tho

well, I can predict the poll result before I read the result. The guys in the forum are very good. Of cource, they are using text based editior.

Personally I think dreamweaver is best because I don't know that much html although I can recognise it. I suppose everyone has their reasons for picking their editor. Most newbies would probably use editors made by their host as they would have no idea what else to use. I guess that the results of the poll show there are not many newbies around here.

I always use DreamWeaver. I like how you can add the extensions to it, and it has so many more features than any other program I have ever used. For the longest time I used FrontPage, but I began to get sick of Microsoft's products, and I switched to DreamWeaver. The only time I use any other product is when I am editing CGI, then I will use good old NotePad. :D

I generally use DreamWeaver of FrontPage Express to make designs, and PHPCoderPro (http://www.phpide.de) for my coding (PHP in specific). Why? I used all kind of editors: 1st page, Home Edit (or whatever it's called). And now I settled with PHPC. If I find anything better, I'm happy to switch.

I agree. I am starting to become sick of microsoft. Dreamweaver is so much better since I switched yesterday.

Some funny thing is some of WYSIWYG programmes' functions are poor in scriptting.

Eg. The rollover image function in Frontpage 97 (I am not sure for the newer version since I don't have money and time to deal with the WYSIWYG editior.) has NO PRELOADING!!!!

Basically, according to my experience, the time for you to learn the pure html and about the same as you deal with dreamweaver's function. After that, you will never ask the how dreamweaver can do that?.

"Oh, no no,..... No such function in dreamweaver badd!!!"

1st Page is the best HTML editor ever, ever created! If you try it you'll know what I mean. Tag coloring, pre-loaded scripts. Everything you need in a HTML editor (not WYSIWYG)

FrontPage is the SUCKEST!

I would recommend DreamWeaver to newbie because I heard some good reputations about it..

For me..I use UltraEdit.. I think it is the best text editor available.
