What is this? It's full of .dll files. I *think* it may have been created 100 years ago when some backup ---- was accidently started.
Whatever it is, can it be deleted without risk or is it a known directory that should be there?

I've never had such a folder so I don't think it's needed. It should be safe to delete it.*

Yes, all files seem to be duplicates of DLLs in c:\windows\system. "bckup" should mean they aren't in use anyway. Here goes! :biggrin2:

hmmmmmm, I have a C:\windows\sysbckup\ folder and it has a heap of rb001.zip rb002.zip etc files. Each one is 1744kbs.

This is funny. I checked when the folder was created. The date is since before I got the puter. Windows doesn't let me delete all files because some of them are in use. In use - in a backup directory!?

There's also copies of mediaplayer and winhelp in there. What crap is this?

Windows 95 and Windows 98 keep a small database of libraries most commonly Overwritten by installation programs. When an installation program exits, Windows checks that the files in this database were not improperly overwritten. If Windows detects that a file was improperly replaced, it restores the file from the hidden Windows\Sysbckup folder. This is done automatically, with no user intervention required.

But I recall when I was using Win98 I had that folder also.

But you can unhide files easy enough. I don't like the way they try to hide them.
Maybe so new users can't accidentally delete important files?
