I have decided to re-design my site and I want to ask you lot what is the perfect design. I'm determined to get this right.

Wrong forum, should be in the Review my site section.

Maybe you should make a design first, then ask people how you can possibly improve it.

Yes but under where it says general discussion it says: Drop in to discuss whatever you want.

Yes. Discuss whatever you want that doesn't fit in any other category.

The nearest category it would fit into is 'review my site'. I haven't made the site yet.

Then why start a thread?

cheatpark

Because I wanted ideas for a design not a review of a design.

The best way is to come up with a design and ask us on what you should improve.

Visit some template site, and pick one you like. Then come over here agian and ask what to improve.

Hey gyrbo this might be going off topic, but isnīt that avatar that of a corporal? Mine is that of a General. :D

Yes, there are many template sites... for example: http://www.freewebtemplates.com

I dunno. I don't really fancy any of those templates they have. I'll start from scratch.

If you start something I can help you out by giving advice... my website is still in the works too.

THE PERFECT DESIGN-

- Is original, and does not look like everyone elses

- Is functional, and does not consist of a million errors

- Is simple, and does not assume everyone's a tech head

- Is open to everyone, and does not force the user to view with Netscape 6.0, 1280x1024 with java enabled and the "KREWJOFLKFSDJLKSFD" font.

- Is interesting, but does not distract from the site's content, it just enhances the experience.

That's all from personal experience.

I have recieved many compliments on my site's design... the key word: SIMPLE. Nobody really gives 2 sh its if you can program a java applet, but if it only takes them one click to view something they've been looking for, THAT'S what they care about.

First off, Lex, this is the correct forum. How can he post a site to review when he doesn't have on yet, he simply wants pointers....

I must agree with everything that syd said. Just make sure you follow his guidelines and the major thing I've learned from designing and working with clients is to keep the Navigation PERFECT! This means always having a link back to where they came from, a site map, and even telling them where they are...

I sorta noticed this thread is in the website/html section and not the forum I suggested, which is probably why you mistakened me.

cheatpark... click on "Nirvana" on this page (http://htmlguru.com/guru.html) for some tips, similar to what syd gave.
(credit goes to andyLee for providing this link for me in my other thread - I've visited this site quite a many times before, but never remembered the URL.)

Thank you. It seems you are the only person here that understood what I asked for. The others had to start an argument.

No, I said if you make a site I can help you out with suggestions. No argument there.

I would say the perfect design will be:

Not so plain
Interesting Content
Professional looking
Don't require specific requirements, like 1024x768, Internet Explorer 6 ONLY, 1024x768+ and Internet Explorer 5+, Netscape 4.7+ would be good.
Fully functional, without an error
Keep typos to a minimal
Include some animation
Stuff to look for are easy to locate, not like sites that newbie may say "Where the heck is the menu?"

Thats all I can say for the perfect design.

Thank you for those points. Some of them I would say I can already do and some I need to improve on. My design will be available in a few days.
