Most people I know would rather go with the cheaper domain name registrar, but I wouldn't, because you never know when they'll go byebye. They may be big, but not big enough to compete with the large companies like VeriSign. What do you think?

At the moment many of the companies that offer low-cost domain registration are reliable, too. I also believe that is stupid pay 35$ for a domain when you can have it for 9$. It's just a domain, not a car or a house.

It would matter if you're mass registering domains in order to get them before others do and you're going to stick to one (for simplicity reasons), but not too many do that. Any other thoughts?

I won't go to the cheapest.. that's one thing.. but paying 35$ is also unlikely.. IMHO, domain registration service business is not growing in the same way as web hosting business. .. Do you have any idea?... I use to do it at directnic for 15$..but now.. registerfly for 9.99$.. a little below that may not worth for.. and cheapest is too suspicious...

It also depends on the domain itself, for example, I wouldn't expect a .jp TLD to go for less than around 15,000 yen or around $100 a year.

the thing about this kind of debate, is that i can say the bigger companies are bad because not as many people use them, and they may go byebye. so, its really a choice of opinion.

so, IMHO, i say cheap registrars are better.

Use cheap registrars that are ICANN approved or something, more "stablility" as you would call it.

What the hell, just use GoDaddy!

If, for any reason, is a registrar to suddenly close doors, I don't think you'll just lose your domain... aren't all domains registered through InterNIC?

What if the registry isn't ICANN approved? Eg Resellers would you buy domains off them?

LeX

I know I wouldn't.

But we won't be ICANN approved, we will probably going through opensrs

Ah, the OpenSRS project by Tucows... that's the other list of registrars I would trust.

Registerfly.com is a authorized reseller of an accredited ICANN Registrar

Could we trust the reseller of it, Lex? :bandit2:

It's all very confusing and stuff... makes it a hard choice!

I actually just registered a few domains through powerpipe the other day, first time I havn't used 000domains.

Was a bit uncertain. Are they icann accredited?

Powerpipe is OpenSRS I think.

I registered my domains at powerpipe. I don't see why I'd even care if they ceased to exist... it'd just mean that I'd have to renew for the next year through another registrar. Not that much of a problem. Or is there something I'm not understanding?
