Serif and Ultimate Paint.

But it has nothing to do with which program you use; it's how you use it. What me and rapmaster did were fairly simple, I think. All I did was slap together the picture of the mouse and that blue background, then overlay it all with a stripe pattern set at a 50% transparency. Then I typed "Elite Zone," and voila--! Instant logo. I'm guessing that rapmaster got the cool "matrix-type" background, gradated it towards the right edge using the mask tool, and shazaam--! Instant logo. It's all transparency and mask, really. Playing around with transparency helps a lot. Oh, and it couldn't help to have a couple of cool fonts on your system!

I can get the BG and transparency to look alright, its the text that always comes out looking crap!

It always seems so flat...

Mind you, I have £290 worth of Photoshop instruction videos and manuals in my house, so I guess I'd better start sifting through 'em!

The problem with those books is that they give you too much information without giving you the basic, most useful stuff you really need to know. That's why the best thing is to check out the various online tutorials. They get to the most important stuff the best without all that extraneous nonsense. Better yet, you can also ask questions in forums to help you out. In fact, I learned everything I sorta know from cruising them.

As for the text bit: I've only use Ulead, so I'm hoping that the advice I give you applies to Photoshop as well. Maybe you can select the text, then use the "fill" or "effects" tool to give it some "oomph." I know that in Ulead, you can give many 3D effects to your text. Not so sure about Photoshop, since I've used it once or twice.
