Argh! Microsoft you can't stuff up consoles as well! It's simply not fair! You people really begin to annoy me!
Take for example Win98 SE and it's faulty registry cycle (that I'm now caught in);
Machine Boots;
var = rand(0-300)
if var > 0 then...
load scandisc
end if
load regscan
restore previous backup files (last load)
boot windows
complain about registry problem
restart machine. *sigh* :(
Or take for example how when you re-install Windows98 it deletes you Pegasus mail program! What competition? What monopoly? :(
Now imagine that on a console! That's why I'm keeping clear of xBox!

The Xbox is HUGE compared to the Dreamcast or even the Gamecube. The controller is butt ugly with the huge logo in the middle (although I guess some people are stupid and would have to stare at the controller to remember what they are playing, what with all these different consoles and all).
And it's also a proven fact that black gaming consoles are doomed to failure (genesis, segacd, jaguar, etc. etc.) and ones that are grey do great (snes, psx, nes). Me personally, I already own a Sega Dreamcast and plan on getting a Nintendo Gamecube... PS2 and Xbox can sucker in all the hype they want but Sega and Nintendo were the original war lords :)

Nice "jewel" it's got... big, ugly, unimportant, and completely useless and unecessary
It'll take me a week to figure out where each button is located and what it's for. The pad looks HUGE!
Microsoft sure dosen't have a lot of confidence in its Xbox... it keeps stating everywhere you look at it that it's an Xbox, as if one who actually bought the thing wouldn't have known what mistake he's just made!

Ya'll need to remember that Microsoft is the largest company (in revenue) in the whole world. They have more money then any other company. So whatever product a company comes out with, Microsoft can come out with too and better. Bill Gates's favorite line is "Whatever you can do I can do better". And you eventually see what Microsoft can do is way better. Ya'll keep wondering why Microsoft doesn't use Linux or sell their own version of Linux? When they do, it's gonna be big. Microsoft just doesn't take the time to perfect their products, if they did, it would blow our minds. Microsoft is just taking it's time. Microsoft already developes products but doesn't release them. When Windows 95 was released, Microsoft was working on 98. Microsoft is ALWAYS one step ahead of the game and that's why they are so big.. and that's why they are so rich.. and that's why everyone hate them. Because what they can do, would blow your mind.. and that's why the United States decided to break them apart. A monopoly? Nope. Why should Microsoft put Netscape in Windows for free? You don't see Mazda complaining that Lexas doesn't put Mazda radios in their cars... if you want your product in someone elses product, you gotta pay.

I knew someone would quote that, but you can mention all the other machines you want, but the X-Box is in a unique position. There releasing with virtually no competition. They have the best hardware ever put into a console. And when was the last time a console could boast that they have virtually every developer making games for their system? Not to mention Microsoft can afford to lose money on the console itself, because they'll more than gain it back in game sales. This will drive up sales making the X-Box the best selling console ever.

OMG! I can't believe how dumb Microsoft is! Look at the control pad! The joystick (which everyone is supposed to use most) is on the same side as the buttons! Therefore, if you are using your right hand (you have to) to control the joystick, you can't move and press buttons at the same time. (Unless you assume a very awkward position of using 2 hands on one side of the pad.) Therefore, you can't run and shoot at the same time, you have to run - stop - shoot - run - stop - shoot - turn around - stop - shoot (You get the point.) If MS doesn't change this, they are so screwed.

They are only the largest in the software industry, but have a long ways to go to be what you claim. Microsoft is $15 billion strong, yes, but that is but pocket change compared to what IBM holds. Then you get out of the computer industry and into the trillion dollar oil industry, and you see a HUGE difference. I dont remember what two, but one oil company offered a buyout of the other for $48 billion........more than Microsoft has ever had at one time...

Look everyone! Micro$oft bought syanet and brainwashed him!
3DO had ''the best hardware'' when it came out, but lacked SOFTWARE which is far more important than hardware. Look at it this way: how good is the best system if it doesn't have jack ---- for games? It's not good for anything. Example: 3DO. Micr$oft might have the money to loose, but overall I think that PS2 and GameCUBE will rule supreme considering they have a larger fan/follower base and they have great backing from companies. The developer for Munch's Oddworld game is the only PS2 developer that I know has jumped ship. Oh well, what do I care. If I buy any more video games again it will only be a PS2 and MGS2:SOL. THPS1&2 and MGS1&2 are the only videogames that intrest me, I have grown out of everything else.

8 bit Gaming 1985+
The Sega Genisus / Master System was a failure in terms or revenue compared to the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) at the time.
16 bit Gaming
The upgraded Master System named the Sega Mega Drive (Unsure of the American name) was a failure in comparison to the revenue of the SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System).
1995-2000
The Nintendo 64 was also a failure along with the Sega Saturn and 3DO in comparison to Sony's PlayStation. Still selling many more units in many countries than the Nintendo 64.
1999+
The Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, GameCube and xbox are yet to be decided. Yet, following the law that all black consoles fail, Nintendo and Sega are well positioned to win in the next 'round' of lounge-room battles.
}:8) Supermoo's facts/theories remain on the fact that the Mainstream gaming market did not begin until the launch of the NES. When Video-Gaming finaly became a past-time for the masses.

WOW, for actually explaining it, I shall give you back your horns. I'll even throw in the money for the surgery to put em back on.
Even right now, the Dreamcast has more games than PS2, has more features (the keyboard, mouse, seganet, mic, maracas, etc. etc.) and Sega is releasing their broadband adapter today if im not mistaken. After Sony promised internet access on the PS2...where..is it?
PS2 DVD compatibility is awfull, Xbox won't come packaged with DVD compatibility, you have to shell out extra dough for it. Dreamcast doesn't have DVD playback :( and Gamecube won't have it either (to lower costs on the console) however Panasonic will release a DVD player that plays gamecube games (neato!).
When Xbox and Gamecube are released, my guess is that some people will buy the Xbox pronto (for whatever odd reason) but the Gamecube will at the same time do good, because it will be cheaper, its from Nintendo, its colorfull (kids like colorfull, look at the later n64 models).
Then of course over time, Xbox and PS2 will be considered flops, and Gamecube and Dreamcast will reign supreme. Thats my theory, and im sticking to it.

Face it, N64's a failure...
I think the main reason for that is because they still use those hard-to-make-and-real-expensive cartridges.
But I won't deny its great games. They ARE great. But the N64 itself is, like I said, a big failure.

I never said it did, I have a Nintendo 64 aswell and enjoy many of the games. In my opinion much better than the majority of the PlayStations'. Although I do like Tenchu, Driver and Gran Turismo on the PlayStation. I also like Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and Lylatwars (Starfox 64) on the Nintendo 64.
The fact remains that the Nintendo is a failure when compared to the marketing genius behind the Sony PLayStation and it's record sales.

Let me be the first to say "well maybe not the first" I hate microsoft, but the fact still remains that the xbox is one killer rig. Most of you have already seen the specs on it so I am not going to bother posting them.
As far as developers goes I don't think they have anyting to worry about there because from what I am reading developers are pulling there games from other systems "oddworld inhabitants from PS2" and porting their games to the xbox.
THe OS is that is going on the system is a streamlined version of Win2k and from what I have heard it is a pretty stable OS.
The fact that they are offering a 8gb HD on the system is pretty awesome too and I have heard that by launch there will be over 60 custom programs written specifically for the xbox which include everthing form instant messaging systems to full blown video conferencing software.
Now to speak of price, I would not be at all suprised if the system came out at a price of under $400.00 The reason I say that is because like someone else stated they could deal with the loss in profit form the rig itself bacause within a few months they would be right back on track from software sales and it would be like they had not lost anything at all.
Anyway that is my 2 cents so take it for what it is worth.

First of all a great opinion, now just one point I'd like to pick up on.
Price.
Typically consoles sell for a lot cheaper then they are actually worth. Even when they first come out and cost a small fortune the console company is not making a profit. This is due to the fact they make all their money back in royalties from the publishers.
For the PlayStation it's something like $5 (for a 5c CD) and for the N64 $15 (for a $5 cartridge). I havn't seen the figures for such a l-o-n-g time so don't take my word for it... just get the idea.
Because the xBox will be open platformed it means that Microsoft will not make money or royalties off any games sold. So the price of the console will have to be, well, the price of the console.
Just my 6c...
Go to http://www.djcl.com/ and make a search and it will be! :)

Well I noticed allot of you are posting without knowledge of the facts about the X-Box.... Well ONE big thing for those of you who think just because Microsoft is going into the gaming Industry that they have no expereince with that they will fail maybe you are wrong, because the game makers who make games for Nintendo, PS, PS2, Sega, Etc. are making the games for Microsoft, not just Microsoft itself, so how can you say they will suck?, if you say theyl suck then your saying games for the rest of the consoles will suck to because the fact the companys who make them games are also doing so for Microsoft. Microsoft simply built a better high performance console, and its giving game enginers more options to make better games than they can do with your typical consoles (PS2 and stuff).... Anyways I suggest you guys read more on about who will supply Microsoft with making games, not just Microsoft itself. :)

Yeah and the same can happen to the PS2 too, im hearing terrible reviews on it, ive played it, I think it isnt no better than the Dreamcast, except the DVD feature. Graphics are so much alike.... Even the games theyre making for PS2 they will barely ever use to the max of game programming. soyou got wasted ram just sitting there, with the rest of the useless technology. The X-Box should be goo,d but I think the Dolphin will be better, Nintendo always surprised the gamers with there outstanding performance in the gaming industry.

Even the games theyre making for PS2 they will barely ever use to the max of game programming. soyou got wasted ram just sitting there, with the rest of the useless technology.
Just because the first wave of games doesn't take full advantage of the system doesn't mean anything. DC's first games didn't take full advantage of their system.
The X-Box should be good but I think the Dolphin will be better, Nintendo always surprised the gamers with there outstanding performance in the gaming industry.
Nintendo has only surprised me with bad things :( eg- carts on the 64. *lol* now this is becoming a discussion that has nothing to do with Xbox. :)
The game I liked with N64 was Mario Kart 64, at least you get to play with 3 other people at the same time, and at the time N64 was released this was as hi-tech as you can get. And Kart 64 is fairly fast, compared to Donkey Kong racing, which was S-L-O-W.........
N64's sound system was awful. Guess they couldn't do much with cartridges.
SNES was great, except that there are too many side scrolling look alikes. SNES had the ability to run "hi-tech" games that we play today on the PS. Ever play Mario RPG? I didn't think snes was capable of producing graphics like that, but they proved that they can. RPG games for PS now are pretty much the same, except with more shades of color in the menus, that's all (like in Final Fantasy 7/8). But it's much slower too.
I think the game console that will last real long (and has) is the Game Boy. It's small, compact, light, cool, and now it's got color. You can take it anywhere without fussing with cords and extension lines etc. And the newer games are better and exciting too.
And it's from Nintendo. :D
P.S. What ever happened to Virtual Boy? It died instantly didn't it? 'cause I've never seen anybody with those, and I've heard that the games are a joke - and red.

Your physics book is WRONG! Throw it away right now!
My nickel batteries last in my wireless mouse on 24 hours a day for four days. Alkalines last for about 14 hours. BIG difference.

Oh, oops.... got my concept wrong. Says here Alkaline is better than dry but nickel lasts longer than Alkaline. Okay, I need to re-study my physics textbook.... :p
No wonder I kept getting B's and C's on my physics exams... :D
