I need help...

I do not know the first thing about getting a domain name, how to transfer it, etc... But I plan on getting one or two. Could someone please tell me how they work and where I can go to register one for cheap. I also need to know how to transfer a domain name to my web site.

I'll let the forum recommend places they've used, but as for 'transfer my domain to my web site', there are two possibilities. One, the most common, is to put the nameservers of your host (ns1.host.com, ns2.host.com), and your host takes care of actually setting up the domain on the server.

The second, is domain pointing, where you aren't really having the domain set up on a server, you are just pointing it to some free space (redirecting it). You could have geocities space for example.

You can do the first (top) at any registrar, but if you want the second then you should request a registrar that has DNS services, or use a DNS service such as http://www.mydomain.com for the redirection part.
