Datablocks have come with a vengence!
One pop-up in the front and another at the back!
Demise of yet another Ad-Free host!
Folks who have been prophesying it may chuckle!
Sad day!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, a FWP can not last long without some sort of ad on each hosted site.

Datablocks' homepage still says Banner Free. Maybe he hasn't updated it yet...

yeah and I think he is gonna offer a co-branding service soon but I bet nobody will signup now that he had done this. Sad day indeed
I do disagree with the having to have a banner on each site though in order to survive. It is is true you do need some way of offsetting the cost of the service but it does not have to be with ad banners.
I too will be getting into the business of FWP in the fall of this year and I plan to offset my cost with money I make form other services that I will offer that have nothing to do with hosting at all "software sells and other such things"
I am not going to go into the finer details of my business model but be assured it will be sweet for all concerned.

Neon, unfortunately, that's how Xoom (now Nbci) started out. But you don't see Xoom ad-free anymore.

Like I said that is not all I am going to offer :)
Also I am not greedy like xoom and the such as I would be satisified with just making 5-7 grand a month and the rest would be spent of the hosting which should more then cover the cost.

By what means? Donations and ad banners on main page always tends to fail.

My bet is that lpok is wrong and that F2S won't have ads for a while.

I will not be taking donations and the only banners on our main site wil be either for the programs and services we sell or for sites like webmaster tools and help sites and even then we will not charge the advertisers a penny for the ads.
All I will say at the moment is by the end of June I will have acquired enough resources to run any site I want for the next 2 1/2 years at a cost of $16,000 a month. Now subtract form that the $7,000 a month for my own needs and I am left with $9,000 for the site. If I cannot run a FWS on that then I need to just give up on the net altogether.
