I've been looking into PHP and it's capabilities lately. It seems it is a good bit more powerful than Perl. Anyone here can correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway I was wondering if there are any good free PHP forum scripts out there. Also, is a PHP forum better and faster than CGI ones?

Perl is a hell of a lot more powerful than just plain ol' web based PHP, and no, PHP forums are not necessarily faster than Perl forums.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll just stick with Ikonboard 3.0, I just checked it out and it's looking quite spiffy.

Some will agree and others will disagree but I think that php forums are better (a lot) than perl ones. Speed is debatable most php forums use mysql but then perl are as well but not as many use it. If you look at the facts php forums are usually better. Examine this list below of forums made in certain programming languages:
PHP
Vbulletin
Burning board
Openbb
Phpbb
...list goes on
Perl
Yabb
Ikonboard
ASP
Snitz
CGI
Ikonboard
ultraboard (not sure what its called but the main page is ultraboard.cgi, I will correct it if someone tells me)

traditional cgi method is slow.
Well, the execution speed mod_perl is about the same as php, I think.
However, the most important thing is PHP is much easier to write

If I'm not mistaken, I don't think there's such a programming language as CGI. UBB and Ikonboard are both considered Perl boards. I mean, you don't see any listing for CGI discussion boards on Hotscripts. :)
I have a MUCH bigger list of board scripts...About 300 or so, including remote.
