Banners with Buttons on the side [Archive]

Does anyone have any thoughts on placing button ads 120 x60 on the left and right side of banner ads? Is this considered too much advertising? Will it affect click rates on banners much? Would this diminish the perceived quality of a site. Cnet and lots of technology sites use the full length huge banner so is a regular banner with 1 button on each side of it any different?

And if you think such ad placements are acceptable as a site owner or site visitor, do you think such should be done only to bottom banners, or top and bottom banners?

You could probably get away with it as long as they weren't all animated. That would be annoying to the surfer.

If you try it, let us know how successful (or not) it is.
