Is there any reason to have more than one? I see some hosts offering 4 or 5 on very expensive options. If a message board gets really large, would it need more than one database?

its better. cuz with 1 you may have problems with scripts, that have the same tables name...
maybe 2 scripts that use the table "news" and stuff like this...

or if you have a scripts that use many tables best to spread them out over multiple db's... but for most people it's unnecessary...

yeah! its right ... most people just use 1 database ...

i used exa-bytes (http://www.exa-bytes.com), and i register the promotion package where i got 10 MySQL database .. until now i just use 1 .. hehe.

but sometime its better to have multiple database for different script ... so you can dump the database faster ... i think.
