View Full Version : I am having a horrible time with my host.

Well, it's been a month now. I have been trying to get my website onto my host's servers. I go for weeks without their assistance. They have been ignoring my emails until I threatened to contact VISA, but when I did that, they emailed me within minutes and claimed that I didn't put my account information (the email had all the prior emails and information within it). I'm so tired. This site means a lot to me. At first, I tried to upload my first page. One small page with two graphics, both jpgs and it told me insufficient disk space on server. Then, the control panel was down. Now they have changed my registration information and it still will not work. They ignore me, evade the questions and just will not work with me. This has been consistant over the past month.
The host is located in Australia. Whenever I would contact them with a general question they would simply reply "you must fill out a support form!".
I have just asked for a refund. This place doesn't even have a phone number I can contact them with. I guess it was idiotic of me to go with this company, but they had advertising on Google and I guess I was suckered. Now, I am suck without a website that I wanted to have up four weeks ago.
Are there any suggestions of good, affordable hosts?

Why the U.S.? I would have thought it wouldn't matter which country if you didn't mind it was outside australia.

Looking at some of their customer views on the site it seems not a single one is rude. Also some could be turned against the company. Look at this one:
"If you guys can give unlimited web space, transfer, etc for $4.95, why do those other damn companies charge so much!"
Other companies probably charge a lot and offer little space because they are more reliable. My host has unlimited space and transfer but they do have a reasonable speed and charge more than $4.95 a month. In my opinion you pay for what you get. If you pay little then expect little. If you pay a lot then expect a reliable service.

I didn't have any preference in the beginning as far as location and honestly, I wouldn't really now, but I want someone I can talk to on the phone if such a situation as this would arise again. Although, I hope that doesn't happen again.
Yes, I know. I should have done more research. I was suckered in by the whole unlimited webspace and charity deal (since the charity was dealing with eating disorders and I have dealt with that, it worked on an emotional level, I suppose. I know, ridiculous, but like I said, this was my first time).
I have designed my own page, so I don't need designer services and hopefully, I will still have my domain name I registered with them. But, I don't know. I suppose that is still up in the air. I don't think for as much space as I want I should go over $100 a year. I wouldn't even mind advertising as long as it isn't pop-up. As far as traffic, I guess I will have to see how much traffic I can build up before I can even begin to answer that question.
Thanks for your help.

And another host making a bad impression on other hosts based in Australia. We have been working hard with -------- to retrieve users accounts from there. While they are slow at responding I managed to retrieve the owners email address (home).

They offer something that cannot exist and therefore they will have problems.

I'm right with you on that SoTired. :angry2: I must admit that even after reading many, and I mean many poor reviews on --------, I still decided to give them a go because I thought they were a charitable organization, to an extent.
Am I tense? Let's just say that I have never felt right ever since signing up for a -------- web hosting package. They should at least remove the "charity" section from their web site, then they can do whatever thay bloody want.
