I don't see any discussions of this, so ... anyone here tried the Amazon Honor System to collect donations from your web site users?
I installed the thing the other day -- just a text link on the main page for now -- and so far I have gotten one donation of $20 (or $16.85 after Amazon fees).
My thought is eventually to put a text link in the bureaucratic fine print in every page footer. (Users who care will find it.) Text links are allowed, but Amazon supposedly doesn't allow you to use any image link except theirs. I don't like their creepy practice of displaying the user's name in the box.
I only get something like 5,000 uniques per day (about 30,000 page views), so there's no way this is going to turn into big money. If 1/100 of 1% of users were to donate an average of ten bucks, that would come to about $150/month. That's probably too optimistic. We'll see how it goes.
Any other experiences?
