I am currently hosted by portland.co.uk...and knowing all my files are being held 500,000 miles away in the united kingdom, everythings rather slow.
See I was looking around for another host..with 'FREE' cgi-bin; ftp; descent amount of space; and domain hosting.
while looking at Digital rice and various others ..
do you think I could rely on "rice" to host me?
I love portland.co.uk but speed is a frequent issue..
so far it's my only issue.. and their ftps down when I need it the most... very frustrating...
thank you very much.. :)

If you host with them, they own all rights to all the content you have on their servers.

I thought that was liquid2k, (when it existed) lmao

I'm pretty sure Rice does it too. Ask Nick.

Why ask Nick

He's just a geek that actually read the Liquid2k TOS and shared its dirty little secrets to the world. I've never used DigitalRice so I can't comment on them.

DigitalRice has excellent support and service... when it's up. In the time I've been there, the people have been prompt and really nice. The only downside is, the servers go down a lot. They're working to fix it, though.

hey now, just because i read alot doesn't make me any more of a dork than any of you internet junkies! ;)
Well I signed up for digitalrice but their ftp's down. they say it takes 48 hours for your account to start working,
but maybe that's a, oh hell, SCREW him...*L*

phreakin.co.uk on the other hand is very friendly...I asked if they could host my domain,
and they accepted me with open arms...let's just say i hope nothing happens to them,
because so far they've been my +salvation+ sooo faaaar hehe
i love their Trash canned sites...wooo ok i need to stay on topic here...
any comments on phreakin, other than my own?

That's what I thought too. It took more like 4 days to get my FTP working after I signed up. Works fine now.

I live in the UK, and the response times for portland vary a lot. However the pings to them are always constant, that's what gets me. From my cable line look at this.

Pinging www.portland.co.uk [212.15.64.41] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 212.15.64.41: bytes=32 time=19ms TTL=247
Reply from 212.15.64.41: bytes=32 time=21ms TTL=247
Reply from 212.15.64.41: bytes=32 time=18ms TTL=247
Reply from 212.15.64.41: bytes=32 time=20ms TTL=247

Ping statistics for 212.15.64.41:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 18ms, Maximum = 21ms, Average = 19ms

It doesn't get much lower from my cable connection... so I don't know what the issue is - low cpu power?
