What sort of ad? For making money? If that is the case I doubt you will find too many advertising companies that allow their ads to be placed on BBs.

It is only legal if the advertising company allows it. If they don't allow it and you do it anyway, then you are in breach of their Terms of Service. They will just delete your account and any money earned is lost.

It legal just as long as you keep the copyrights on the board untouched.

If you have trouble finding a ad network who will take you (and as others have suggested you may these days) then the other thing to look into is running affliiate links or pay per action type advertising, such as affiliate programs through www.cj.com

NO, IT IS NOT LEGAL! You must pay licensing fees to each of the software companies.

I don't see what is illegal about it. You are providing hosting space, and ads must be placed on your pages. Seems to be the norm and the content is irrelevant IMHO.

NO IT IS NOT LEGAL! It would only be legal if the software was open source. You even listed some that aren't FREE for commercial use.

Be safe, and contact the creators of the BB. Most freeware scripts and programs have a rule where you can't make money from it's use. Better ask first.

Your project is legal. Al these free boards you can use them as you wish. The only thing you cannot do is sell the code. With your project obviously you offer the hosting(with just a board preinstalled) not the code of the boards. So don't worry.
