I thought that when Win2k Service Pack 3 comes out it would be large, 110MB... but this file is 1GB... that is excessive. :eek:

Their site is so large even somebody on that large team they probably got updating the site made the mistake... hey it can happen..

Even if it was 1 GB I would still download it if I wanted it. I have before... and that was when I had dialup.

I just noticed something. I don't think it was c|NET that screwed up. I think it was the publisher of the program. Look at their other program. http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10022-100-8640104.html?tag=st.dl.10022-106-1.lst-0-1.8640104 It says the filesize for that is 1 GB as well.

Too many to count... 4 weeks maybe; can't remember exactly.

Now something that size only takes me around 2-3 hours.

You really have a lot of time on your hands? And if you were living in Buenos Aires, with the horrendous charges on telephone calls you would have one heck of a bill.

The biggest thing I ever downloaded was 110MB... it was a game demo and it was on my ADSL line. I never downloaded anything over 2MB on my old 56k line.

AOL is a joke... it must of took a long time.

And, sure... you get unlimited usage here with 56k for $9.95 a month... but what they forget to specify is you have to pay a dollar for each hour you use... which is a phone line bill. That really adds up.

the largest I downloaded on 56k was a 100mb file I took 2-3 hours to download. it was a game demo(Lego Racers).

Also the person who did the e thing probably dunno what is MB :D

Largest file I ever downloaded on 56k was 250mb of a linux ISO... I gave up and went to buy it :p

Second largest files were about 145mb each, full versions of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 and Hitman: Codename 47 :D

Biggest file I ever downloaded on dialup? 900MB+ DivX. I set my connection to automatically reconnect when I left on a vacation for a week :p.

I'm currently downloading four FreeBSD ISOs at ~650MBs each.

How fast do your downloads run? Average...

Mine used to go ~6kb... after some tweaking with the registry, now it has sped up to ~10kb :classic2:

mine 56 k has a download speed of 3- 4.5 k/ sec. on a ----ty conexant Softw56k (it sucks, if it would be hardware based the speed would increase)....
how you speed up your 56k?
i also want to know :angry2: and the largest file i downloaded on this connection was 46mb ;)

Umm... I have an IDSL modem, it's not a 56K modem.

You can speed things up by tweak your registry... by doing so you can lift the restrictions Windows puts on your connections, achieving speed acceleration. http://optimizing.net/

Maybe he means IDSN?

I get about 5.5~8Kb/sec on my modem after optimizing it as much as possible. What really pisses me off is that my ISP has switched their session limit. It used to be that I could connect for 60 hours before I got kicked, but now they kick me off every 3~5 hours.

its up to the publisher to put in the info for their product. they fill out a form and click submit. im not sure if it gets proofed or not but thats the way they do it.

i downloaded a 364mb file b4 im on cable but it still took a while. i did it while i slept

My 56k downloads at around 5kb/s depending on the site (or morpheus) and it can go down to 2kb/s. So sad :cry2:

No, I'm guessing Lex didn't mean ISDN, he probably meant what he said--- IDSL. IDSL is 144kbps and stands for ISDN Digital Subscriber Line. Short and oversimplified definition: It's DSL over an ISDN line.

Well the biggest file i have downloaded was about 350meg (linux), but the thing is i only had to pay for the phone calls. Because i used gozilla (which can resume downloads), and i have an account with TPG which gives me totally unlimited free usage between 1 and 8 in the morning so i just set it to download day in day out in the morning when no one is using the phone and gozilla connects, downloads, disconnects, and shuts down for me. Is that easy or what.
