Please guys help me.
I have just spent 70$ registering my own domain name and now i am a bit lost and confused.

I am looking for a web host or webspace (what's the difference?) to play around a bit until i get the feeling of uploading html pages and that stuff.

I want to put up a website dedicated to travel information and services for a specific destination including a forum (like vbulletin), pictures and general info. For a start it will not be commercial only hobby.

Now i think i want to use phpnuke for the main info pages and the forum and therefor i think i need on the webhost following services:

My own domain like: www.mydomain.ws (not www.mydomain.f2s.com)
PHP, CGI, mySQL and FrontPage.
Totally Free Setup and No extra charges.
FTP uploading.
No Banners or Advertising.
Unlimited or acceptable traffic.
Something like 10 or 20 MB space.

I know this could be probably impossible but the first 4 are most important i think. Of course lots of you will think if this exists there will be no reliability, no speed lots of down times and so on but i really need advice.

Thanks for any help.

You need to move your records to their servers.. I know portland allow you to do this.

http://www.portland.co.uk

They are free - not a huge amount of traffic allowence, but fine for testing.

Only PHP & CGI though... nothing else ;)

Thanks a lot laurie, lot's of people have mentioned this webhost but it doesn't really convince me.

i don't know exactly why, but maybe because it takes ages just to open the main window or just because there is not much information before signing up.

i am scared about the idea of this company not releasing my domain once i transfer it to them. (in case of moving somewhere else).

maybe i should go for a paid webhost (a cheap one).
anybody has other suggestions?

anybody tested xoasis.com ?
it looks ok to me but i didn't find the way to upload any files.

The only host that meets your requirements is f2s.com, but they are quite slow sometimes. Xoasis have ads, if you want no ads, you probably have to go with paid hosting.

You might want to check out netcabins.com too, they have everything you want, except for no ads. Their ads are user placeable so you can put them anywhere you want, so that is a plus.

Thanks a lot :D

i like netcabins, clear, tidy and looks professional.
although the signup is temporarily under construction so i will have to try later.

btw. 4 anybody interested i found the next page while searching for web hosting. It helped me also a bit.

If your wanting these kind of features and your host to be reliable expect to pay. The host needs to make some money to stay in business.

There was a host on WebHostingTalk (paid) that offered to install nuke with add-ons with the account. Not sure you'd be interested, but...
