View Full Version : Moderators Needed

Hi,
As you most of you guys already know im Chris, and i'm just about to start up a forums site. Below I have stated some FAQ and please read all through it.
What forum software will you be using?
I will be using a registered (not warez) copy of vBulletin, which I believe is the best out there - If you have any other boards that rival vBulletin please post here.
What exactly do you need moderators for?
No heavily used Bulletin Board can go far with out moderators/adequate supervision, tension can build up which can lead to member fights. Thats what the moderators are for, to inforce the rules and do whats ever necessary to break up any disputed. They are also there to serve as a guide for newer members.
I like the sound of this job, how can I help?
As you will have noticed by the title I am actaully looking for moderators for my new forum, I am expecting traffic to get pretty heavy so Im just preparing for the long run.
Now, onto the important bit - I will be needing about two moderators, they will be on multiple forums and possibly even have the 'Super Moderator' status.
The people I will want to recruit will have to well mannered, polite, knowledgable and have a good sense of whats right and wrong (in terms of Bulletin Board agression). Generally a nice person would be great.
If you think your a good person for the job please post underneath this post, a small paragraph about yourself, your web skills and what catergories you would like to specialise in. Also your real name, and any extra info you think would help.
Sorry for being harsh
Thanks and I hope I can find some great moderators.
Chris
NOTE: This is not the sort of job when you come once a week to the forum, this is an everyday commitment.

I am kind of interested... but it all depends on what type of subjects your boards are covering... if it is things such as html/graphics/photoshop or just general things, etc, I could probably help... but if it is things such as php/MySQl/politics etc I don't have any knowledge in these fields

How about that, as soon as I mention the possibly of money this becomes a hot thread lol.
Anyway,
I wanted to see a portfolio of some people to see how good they are and how much they could help other people.
So far I am considering:

It might be an idea if everyone sends their MSN and AIM acount names to you via email or PM. The spambots will have a field day with all the email addresses given out in these forums :confused2

PM sent MindRash, and definately a good idea Jan....
I'm more frightened of ppl I give my email to than the bots, considering I gave it to a few ppl locally, over from Hong Kong and all i get now is spam from that region....

February 16th, 2002, 04:54
if i were you i would use (if you have one) email for your domain like blah@domain.com and give blah to your friends, blah2@domain.com blah2 to accounts - ie counteres, guestbooks, ect and so on and so on

Not just spambots, but if you ever look at how many online, most times of the day, there are as many/or more, guests online as there are members, viewing these posts.
The free webspace forum is another example. A new 'host' comes on board, offering all sorts of wonderful stuff and everyone leaves their email address for all to see and then the offer falls through

February 16th, 2002, 05:35
Very true jan, never thought of that!
Nishtec
February 16th, 2002, 07:00
Another good point, and always something to consider I guess....and the point I was making was that spam can originate as well through people you know, from using third party email providers, etc, that are out there or adding you to a list they may feel you may be interested in.
Jan
February 16th, 2002, 07:05
Nishtec, I totally agree especially those who you try to drum in to use BCC for email instead of putting everyone in the To field
But getting back on topic, anyone wishing to leave their details with Chris, should email or PM him with their details.
