PSP7 & Photoshop

Ok, I've visited some online tutorials and I can't find one that shows you how to do image coversions (between gif, jpeg, bmp etc) and image optimization. I have access to either program and any help would be greatly appreciated.

In PSP use

Colors | Decrease colors

if you want to convert to GIF from another format or just decrease the size of a GIF. Then Save As and choose the format you want from the dropdown list.

For optimizing JPGs and PNGs (and GIFs) use

File | Export [choose format]

In Photoshop, easy way is to go to Files/Save to Web and select the colors and (in jpeg) the compression. You also can do mattes etc, and change the colors before you save.
If you want to change the settings in photoshop itself, it's not great, I use Image Ready for that, a lot easier because you can set optimizations with up to 4 preview windows. Wish they would add this in Photoshop.

Not sure what version of ps you are using, but ps 6 does have the four windows for optimization, you'll see it if you do *save for web* from *file*

I think I recognize it from a Mah Jong tile.Without the starry thing, it kinda looks similar to Red Dragon... but I don't think it's the same symbol.

The starry thing means water and the bottom char means "ox" my (chinese) zodiac sign.
