Hell, yeah! I'm now with them instead of Crosswinds. And don't worry Nick, I won't kiss Nbci's ---.

Don't they stick a *huge* ad-frame on your site?

psalzer
January 20th, 2001, 23:40
Pretty huge, but it's not all that bad for a personal site. Thanks for the heads up on the speed. It does seem better. Hope it lasts. I decided to sort "reactivate" my account after reading the first post here. It all worked well and my family and friends' photo galleries are loading pretty well now.

Actually their adframe is not too bad... It goes all the way across the screen, but it's only about 30 pixels high.

No I don't think they do - not had too much.

I remember xoom, they really liked to test your email was still working :D

I remember, I hadn't checked my email for 30 days, then, I checked it once. You have 1250 new messages! Almost all of them were from Xoom.

Yup, same here.... and you can't seem to get yourself unsubscribed, huh? I had to abandon the email account, which I used to sign up for Xoom's "unlimited" space.

At least there was a way around those adframes when Xoom was still Xoom, but it always takes a long time to get connected to their servers. :( Wonder if there is still a way around nbci's adframes? ;)

Some HTML framebreaker?

NC_TOM
January 23rd, 2001, 02:07
Not a frame breaker; just the "true" path to your site. When someone went to http://members.xoom.com/you it would load 2 frames, one with the ad and another with your site which was really located at http://members.xoom.com/_XMCM/you . Therefore if you go directly to members.xoom.com/_XMCM/you the frame would not load. While this was VERY easy to bypass, it is cheating and should not be done. The frame funds the service.

thats like saying there is some money in the streets, pointing it out, then saying but don't touch it, then getting in a car and driving off...

As a result of this, if your site itself uses frames, then your site only shows one ad the whole time someone's surfing through it (two in my case, since I have an "entrance" page to remove another site's frames - if any - while still keeping the Nbci frame intact). I used to use a frame remover javascript on my site when it was on Crosswinds, but of course, I can't use it on Nbci.

Uhh.. No, not quite Omari. It's more like seeing your boss's credit card number in the office files, and not using it because it isn't yours, you respect your boss, and you value your job.

Even if your boss leaves his CC out on his desk all the time for the public to see, that doesn't make it right for you to use it. Xoom's ad system was poor, but you still need to respect their Terms of Service.

Hell no, you don't use your boss' cc num because you don't know the PIN number (so you can't extract his cash) or you don't know your boss' real name and address (heck, he might be called Jorge instead of George, and his registered address might not be the one he's living at right now).

I'm betting that the majority of people will use the cc num if they found out everything they needed, sort of a way to get back at the boss, for all the times he put you down, refused to raise your salary and always constantly yells at you for smelling like Head and Shoulders. Almost everybody has something to complain about their boss.

I guess I left the cc on the desk. It still works with NBCI, the same way it did with Xoom. I use it, strictly for three different photo albums. And I post the address with the ad frame. It's very nice to have unlimited space for photos and it's also nice to have free space where you can use frames, because that's they way I like to do the photos. And there's FTP. I'm not messing with that.

Amen to that, psalzer.

A free host is able to remain *free* because of the adverts.

I don't mind banners/pop ups being that its free.... and taking down the adverts only hurts the service your enjoying for free.

If you don't like the adverts choose a host that has ones you can deal with... its not fair to steal from people.
