What would be a good place to sign up for a free
domain-name? what are the pros-cons for each
place that is suggested? any catchs?

Now that domainzero died, there are only two real ones left (correct me if im wrong). They are both ok, I guess, since they offer pretty much the same thing...

The second is from register.com so I think it will be in better shape (and funding for the future). Both have ads, and yes you 'could' crack them, and yes, if you and get caught they 'will' delete your account...
