dont think anyone would want to use your database anyways

it looks like your mysql DB wont accept name and pass, have you tried username without the cap in front?

I can't log into my old Freewebspace.net account for some reason.

Anyways, I tried that and it still doesn't work.

dont tell me that account pass was same as your phpbb pass...

Bruce
March 2nd, 2002, 10:35
Well that's not a phpBB error. The error is with your database. Just re-check all the usual stuff. Make sure your username and pass are correct, and you have the right server and database name.

If you do, then you may want to contact your host.

Every feature that phpBB2 is lacking (which isn't many) is available as an addon. http://mods.phpbb.com

yes phpbb is lacking some admin features, i think they went for the whole ''lets be original'' theme and tried to do the bets they could without coping vb or any of the other popular forums

good for you, what was wrong with it? did you mess the config up? that is most likly 70% of all installs for backend programing

You should really install phpBB2.

phpBB 1.x just plain sucks.

And why would I do that?

Okay forget it... is there an easier to use forum than this one?

phpbb2 or wbb is very easy to install...

with wbb you have to do alot of customizing of the templates to make it what you want it to look like...

do you want features or look?

GC, download phpBB2 here. http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/phpbb/phpBB-2.0-RC2.zip

It looks like you're just having a great time.

Maybe you'll find some info about that at their support forum. http://phpbb.sourceforge.net/phpBB2

I am just going to go with remotely hosted ones, unless somebody finds me by some miracle one that actually works and is very easy to use. I don't have the time to tinker around with a useless piece of software.

If your host doesn't work with phpBB, then just maybe you should stop recommending them, since they can't even handle quite a well-known and widely used PHP/mySQL board.

The software was never useless, your host was.

It is the software that is crap... crapola... my host supports PHP and MySQL. I will not stop recommending my host because it works. You are useless too because you are unhelpful.

Just stay the ---- out of my way, I like Below10host. It actually works. I just don't have the patience to get a bulletin board working.

*shrug*

You're forgetting that it works elsewhere. There are system requirements for any piece of software, your host just didn't meet them. Duh.

Maybe a simpler board would work: www.phorum.org/

My host does meet those requirements... and since when did you know they don't? Maybe I messed up on installing it, and did something wrong... I just don't have patience to set these small codes and all of this other stuff.

And there is nothing wrong with my host.

I will try that one.

My brain is sorta fried right now.... so I uploaded Phorum up...

But I need to know what to set the directory where everything is written to...

If the scripts are writing configurations to files, then those files have to be 777-if the scripts are creating files, the directory must be 777.

I still get these file permission errors. I am pretty sure it is not my host, because I asked them if they kept their hardware up-to-date and according to them they do.

I do get a prompt, and under a pull-down menu I choose MySQL.

This is what I am getting:
Warning: fopen("************/settings/forums.php","w") - Permission denied in /functions.php on line 109

Could not open file admin/settings/forums.php. Please check the file permissions.

(I can't reveal the entire directory for security precautions.)

Make sure you have CHMOD'ed functions.php correctly... The script can't open it.

I did so... so I am just going to contact my host. I am not paying $29.95 month for nothing. They said they would check it out once I told them the problem. Damn, I love this support... they get back to me in 5 minutes.

I have nearly got this forum working... for some reason the FTP wasn't working so the support did the CHMOD themselves.

I get this error when trying to add a forum:

Could not add forum to the main table (forums). Database error: Unknown column 'id' in 'field list'.

The address is:

And I suppose the php boards you have used, wrote the login password and username and etc for the database, into the database itself?

You have to CHMOD 666 (or above) whenever the install procedure/script of the forum requires write access to a file. This includes php or perl forums (if you were referring to perl when you said "cgi").
