Err...I don't want to let you down but that sounds way too unlikely...you won't ever find such a thing free, not even close to that.

Right, whatcha need 1GB of space for anyways?

http://nbci.com/
http://stas.net/
Some of 'em offer FTP, all claim to offer unlimited space last time I heard.

unlimited but...limited to something. Has anyone tried their limits? It sounds to me like this thing is gonna eat lots of bandwidth. They are not the kind of place I'd use for storage anyway.

They're not storage space providers, they're webspace providers. There's a big difference between the two.
For storage you can go to idrive.com or xdrive.com or freedrive.com or some other company.

I know, hence my response, he said 'host' but indicated he was going to use it for storage. Even when they give you webspace it is not supossed to be used for this, their TOS are clear. It sounds to me that he might have better luck with a storage provider rather than with a webspace provider. Nothing but an assumption but, the files I'd download with a T3 aren't the kind of files that webservers like, do you see my point Lex?

I must also warn you that Nbci has an 11 mb file size limit, if you have files over that size, you should try Crosswinds or Stas.

Go to http://nbci.com
Scroll to the bottom
Find "Membership"
Click on "Membership Form"
You're there.
Now, that wasn't too bad, now was it? ;)

winrar is a zipping utility like winzip (you have heard of that right?) that allows you to split up large files into smaller ones. it is used a lot for warez

Like winzip but supports .rar extensions as well - I prefer rar's to zip's :)

A lot of messages since I loaded the page, read another thread - replied to this.
Looks like some of you guys beat me to it.
Winace is another fairly popular format by the way.

if you have a t-3 then you could host yourself

I was thinking exactly the same. A T3 should be enough for most websites.. 5625kb/s :)

Hi guys,
Thanks for the info. Crosswinds is looking good. WinRAR is a program used alot for warez, It is used to unzip .RAR files :)

I agree with the last few post on this subject, hosting the site yourself would probably be the easiest way.

So what kind of site needs a gig of space? You said you're gonna upload a lot of stuff, so what kind of stuff is it? If you are just going to store files, use a place that allows this(as mentioned before). Too bad there's none that give you FTP.

This looks like warez to me. Perhaps Sky doesn't want people chewing up his bandwidth, so he's finding someone else's bandwidth to chew.

yeah, here's one smart guy here, putting up bandwidth-eating stuff on other people's servers instead of his own. Brilliant.
I think there's something wrong with Winzip, like, they hardly compress at all. Most of the files in an archive reads 0% compressed, and they usually apply to the larger files, and you get these 1kb text files compressed 75% and stuff. Crazy!
Winrar is definitely better. Never used Winace tho.

Blackhole, supported by PowerArchiver compresses better than RAR. But RK is the best of them all, the problem is trying to use it =/

you can make it:
.exe - Execute this to extract such that everyone can use it
.r00 - Archive
.r01 - Archive
.r02 - Archive
.r03 - Archive
.r04 - Archive
.r05 - Archive
.r06 - Archive
and so forth

True .exe's been self-extracting, .r01 etc are the archieves if you decide to make each section 15,000,000 bytes etc.

Tell me this. A T3 modem, is the same as a T3 connection? Right? Well then why the hell don't you run your own damn server, and give us some space

it's funny how people can read an entire post and then ask the same question.
