Well maybe ...you'd probally use less than 40% of possible data-transfer if even that :D

For existing members, will they get 400GB transfer instead?

I have a client that alone burns through 1700 GB per month. The wonders of shoutcast :)

Does rackshack use cogent? How can they offer bandwidth at those prices.
I guess they are betting most people won't use that much.

i know the bandwith alone is worth $119 to me. Yes they do use cogent they are multihomed though they have multiple providers so if one goes out they have a back up

How can they offer that when http://www.hostzone.co.uk charges an extra 2.50 pounds per month per gb. Other hosts like myacen charge $3.50 for an extra gb transfer. I know uk data transfer ain't cheap but it confuses me how rackshack can make profit from this.

well look at cyberwings they are nutz. and alot of providers sell their extra bandwith for $2.50-$5.00 a gig and some are alot more. 4webspace.com (tera-byte) gives you 100gigs and a server for $99 a month that less than a $1 a gig and a free server or however u wanna look at it a server with 100 free gigs???

Well....I'm just so confused that I don't know what to say about it. Just that its crazy. I guess they just offer low quality services. I know that hostzone own their own servers so they have to pay for them. But then I find their bandwidth prices a bit too expensive and hard to look at. Even if uk data transfer ain't cheap.

rackshack and tera-byte own theirs too but I dunno how they can offer so much for so little either.like i said the bandwith is worth more than $119 a mo to me without a server.

they are one of the leading companies so they got tons of servers hosted with them so they get bandwidth extremely cheap because they buy so much... if they got a 1000 servers hosted, they are buying almost 0.4 million GBs/month so its extremely cheap for them to buy b/c they're buying in bulk...
they also get some money from the setup fees... and i dont think that each server they sell uses up all the 400gb bandwidth...
o well... either way its way cheaper for them, but they would be in trouble if all the servers started using all of the 400gb bandwidth but i dont see that happening...

Anything is cheaper in wholesale. Nuts, Diapers, CDRs, servers, bandwidth...
the more they buy, the cheaper it is per TB.
Their tech support is terrible, by the way. I wish they would hire me so i could get paid for nothing.

I doubt most of the servers even use half the alotted.

Neither tera-byte or rackshack buy data-transfer
They both have their own bandwidth providers and pay the related price for say ie : OC3 = 155mbps

One of the reasons that they are so cheap is because they don't have much of that which costs the most to any company - manpower. So if something goes wrong with the server, they might get around to having a look (as Robert, Myacen, found out). And if they think you caused the problem then they won't help. If you have any admin questions, they won't help.
Tech support is so limited with only 1 person on at night. Get real, this is a decent DC?

So they dont buy it but they pay a price. Yeah, I guess that makes sense.
