If i have not put this in the correct forum could someone move it?

I am myself currently considering and toying with the idea of moving into the webhosting market.

I have already choosen who i shall resell for, KDAWebServices.

What i'd like to know is just how exactly you go about convincing a bank to loan you the money to start up.

What kind of marketing stratergy would be best? advertise in magazines or buy space on hosting directories? or even both?

I've decided to target small companies and individuals rather than trying to win the contracts of major corporate compaines. Also really going to make my target audience developing countries like England, Australlia, New Zealand and so forth. Theres already a lot of competition in the US market.

Some friendly advise would also be welcome :)

Hi,

I think magazines are too expensive and a waste of cash. Indexes like webhostdir.com are really good. Also find so good webmaster ezines to advertise in, they can be very cheap.

You will need some form of business plan to submit to the bank. Show what you'll offer, your skills, your packages, your plans for the future, a forecast etc. A decent projection of growth is a must.

If you have any specific questions, I'd love to help!

James the CEO of Webhostdir said hed give me free advertising on his directory when i accepted being an moderator there on the forums. So thats a peice of free advertising.

I've spoken to .net magazine (http://www.netmag.co.uk) about advertising in there magazine and if i remember correctly for a 8 inch by 6 inch advert it was £750 a month.

I have the skills for managing servers and customer service i do know i need to brush on up my maths todo my accounting properly.

I have a vision to one day own my own data center in Bradford and challenge my local provider Legend Internet (http://www.legend.co.uk).

I've done the maths for hosting packages and how much id earn after paying for rental fees and stuff.

I would love to know how other companies went about setting up and if anyone would share there business plan to give me ideas or know of sites to find a business or just share little bits. Anything really would be good.

Ed your a great service provider and I wish you luck in your quest for your own data center. If anyone you deserve it more than anyone. Im sure there wont be to much to accounting. I know hotscripts.com has so webhosting php scripts that do the accounting 4 ya. And if anyone has a right to speak about webhosts its him. He has succesfully ran several webhosting ventures. And most of you are to new to know about his old services.

You will definately need a business plan and one that does not just outline a bit about who you are and generally cover what you propose to do. The business plan should cover in depth specific information on every aspect of your business proposal and there are plenty of resources online about this. One place you can start is at www.bplans.com which has sample plans for you to look at. Alternatively, you could pay someone to write one for you that would be professional and would require you to give the consultant every detail you have in your head regarding what you want to do. This is important, trust me on this ....

I have written a very basic tutorial on this on a forum at www.designerchat.net in the knowledgebase which may assist you a little.

On the matter of bank loans, you would not only have to produce a viable business plan, but usually have assets that would be equal to or double the proposed amount being sought from the bank.

Cheers
